π’ Time to Rethink How We Evaluate Candidates
As a business owner in the tech space, I believe hiring should focus on skills, experience, and problem-solving ability β not surface-level communication reactions like βohh,β βokk,β or βumm.β
Recently, one of our experienced candidates received vague feedback after a client interview. The only remarks passed were unclear expressions like βohh, ooh, okk,β with no real technical evaluation. It was disappointing β not just for the candidate, but for the entire talent ecosystem.
π‘ Are we rejecting real talent because they pause or donβt speak fluently?
π‘ Are we ignoring skills, just because someone says 'uh' or 'okay' under pressure?
We must stop judging developers by minor communication hesitations β and instead focus on what truly matters:
β
Their technical knowledge
β
Their hands-on experience
β
Their ability to solve problems and deliver
If there are concerns about voice clarity or speaking style, give candidates a fair chance through a video call or face-to-face round.
π Letβs not allow poor interviewer behavior to silently ruin a candidateβs future.
π€ Letβs build interview processes that reflect empathy, professionalism, and fairness.
Iβve always respected companies like Kavi India, but this experience did not reflect the standard expected from such a reputed name. Itβs time for change β and that starts with us, the business community, HRs, and decision-makers.
