It’s neither a myth nor a fact that the native people groups of our country are from the hills and caves, rather they had gone over there. Not every tribal head can tell you how they had gone into the interior hills. It’s a story of oppression and escapes, most of them, happened about 200-225 years ago! There is a legend about the Malayalar/ Malayali (hill-people) tribe on the three ranges of hills on the Eastern Ghats. It seems, three brothers from the plains of Kancheepuram went out for hunting to the forest and did not return for a long time. The village heads thought they might have been killed by wild animals, so they made offerings and declared them dead. Later the men did return, but the village did not accept them and told them they could not live among them anymore. These three men had to leave and they had taken their immediate families and went into three hills- the Kolli Hills, Kalrayan/Yercaud hills, and the Pachai malai. Malayali tribals are found in Kolli hills, Yercaud, Javadhu, and Yelagiri hills. The Malyalar people are migrants to these mountains and lived in the difficult terrain with a lot of deprivation. The Brand couple had come from England over 100 years ago to love and liberate these lost people.
