THE DIAPER DILEMMA....
My sister had a baby girl. The little princess had trouble sleeping with wet clothes, despite protests from my pro-natural mother, she started using diapers.
My sister is the responsible one, the prude of my family. She being her prudent self keeps accounts of everything. Last time I was home I accidentally saw the ‘Baby’s Book’ where she has a note on everything the baby did in a day and stuff. The most interesting part was the diaper page where she kept track of the diaper use. This got me teasing my sister. Once the bickering was over we started talking about diapers. She was concerned about the difficulty in disposing them and how it troubled her that she was throwing away a lot of non degrading plastic.
How many diapers do you think my sister used in a month? An average of 40. Let us assume that a baby requires 1 diaper/day, this translates to 365 diapers per baby/year. With India’s population even the average figures are frightening. How are all these diapers being disposed? Just like the rest of the plastic waste!
ThIs inspired me to start reading about the biodegradable diapers. Bio degradable diapers are eco-friendly, ensure a safe and clean earth for our children. It has reached the markets in developed countries like the US. The big concern is the price.
