The original brief had two conditions, and neither side would move on theirs.

Vyasa would dictate the Mahabharata without pausing. Vinayagar would write it, but only on the condition that he understood every line before putting it down. So when Vyasa needed a moment to think, he composed something deliberately difficult — and while Vinayagar worked out the meaning, Vyasa caught up.

Fast and thorough, held in tension, with both sides finding a way to work.

That is most of what we do. Deadlines on one side, doing it properly on the other, and a conversation in the middle about how to have both.
