Buddha Purnima or Buddha Jayanti, is one of the most important Buddhist festivals celebrated worldwide. It marks the birth, enlightenment, and death of Gautama Buddha and is observed on the full moon day of the lunar month of Vesakha (April/May).
Gautama Buddha encouraged his followers to cultivate inner peace and self-awareness through meditation and mindfulness. He believed that peace is not just the absence of conflict, but a state of mind characterized by harmony, compassion, and understanding.
Buddha's message of peace is profoundly relevant in today's world, as humanity grapples with conflict, violence and inequality. His teachings remind us that peace is not an unattainable ideal, but a state of being that can be nurtured through our thoughts, words, and actions.
In corporate culture, the principles can be applied to cultivate a more compassionate, ethical and mindful approach to business practices. By embracing his tenets of nonviolence, empathy, and mindfulness, organizations can foster an atmosphere of collaboration, innovation, and well-being, engendering a more sustainable and harmonious work environment.

"Self-control is strength, Right thought is mastery & Calmness is power"~ Buddha

A ‘40 DAY’ LONG HOLI CELEBRATION!!

Yes, you read it right!

I am from Barsana, where Holi is not just celebrated but lived out like a grand experience over a period of 40 days.

Unlike other months of the Hindu calendar, ‘Faag ka mahina’ which starts off from Basant Panchami, is 40 days long. The Barsana residents (from Radharani’s village) invite the Nandgaon residents (from Krishna’s village) over every evening at the Radharani temple, where they hold a ‘Samaj’.

At the Samaj, both sides sit opposite one another with a Holy book placed in between, which they read out in a lyrical manner. The singing makes for a divine, positive and vibrant atmosphere. As the book reading concludes, it ushers in the 3 day ‘Lathmaar Holi’ which is played out as follows:
• Day 1: Laddumaar holi in Barsana
• Day 2: Lathmaar holi in Barsana
• Day 3: Lathmaar holi in Nandgaon

In Laddumaar holi, a person performs a traditional dance in front of Radharani at the temple. Whilst dancing, the person starts throwing laddoos, which people try to catch and collect as these are considered as Prasad from the God. This event takes place in the temple premises in the evening. The air all around is vibrant with multi coloured gulaal.
In Lathmaar Holi at Barsana, the Nandgaon Males dressed traditionally as “huriyaare” come to the Radharani temple to seek blessing and then start the auspicious proceedings. Married ladies of Barsana use sticks (Lath) to hit the Huriyaare on their shield which they use for their protection. This symbolises that Radha is playing Holi with Krishna. This unique and amazing celebration has attracted people from all over the world to visit Barsana, experience as well as document the event.

On the third and last day, the same scenario plays out again but with a difference – this time the menfolk of Barsana visit Nandgaon to seek Krishna’s blessings and play Holi with the Nandgaon ladies.

Wishing everyone a Happy, Vibrant and Safe Holi!!
