More about Rabin Mondal
(1929–2019), born in Howrah, West Bengal. 
• Rabin was a founding member of Calcutta Painters, a modern-art group formed in 1964 that played a key role in shaping modern Indian art

• His works are known for their stark, expressionist portrayal of humanity’s suffering — often using distorted, bold figures to reflect social realities like poverty, famine, and displacement, shaped by his early experiences in overcrowded Howrah and the trauma of events such as the 1943 Bengal famine.
