Niswey embarked on its Great Game of Business Journey last year, and since last November 2024, the entire team has been getting together weekly to forecast the key numbers for the month such as Revenue, Direct Expenses, Gross Profit, Gross Margin, Indirect Expenses, and EBITDA.
No, we are not finance wizards; we are simply regular people (into software development, customer success, HR, project management, implementation, sales and marketing, accounts, etc) trying to understand how our work impacts the revenue and profits. We learn and teach each other about Cost of Good Sold and EBITDA margins. We question why a billing target was not hit, or why an expense ins under a specific header.
We are regular people learning how a business really works. And because of that we have a say in how much money the company could potentially make and distribute as bonuses.
This offsite is special, as we get to do this weekly huddle in person, and we decided to whiteboard it, instead of only updating a spreadsheet. This week, Musharraf and Manoj led the huddle asking the team questions about how much of the forecasted revenue was at risk, and why has some expense suddenly gone up, and so on. It was very interactive, and of course involved a lot of poking good-natured fun at each other and much laughter.
