Bihar Assembly Elections 2025: BJP and JD(U) Likely to Contest Fewer Seats Amid Seat-Sharing Tensions
As the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections approach, the NDA is facing internal challenges over seat-sharing arrangements. Reports indicate that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and Janata Dal (United) (JD(U)) may contest fewer seats than in 2020 due to increasing demands from smaller allies. The BJP and JD(U) are expected to share around 203 seats, leaving the remaining seats for allies such as the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), Hindustani Awam Morcha (HAM), and Rashtriya Lok Morcha (RLM).
Chirag Paswan's LJP is set to contest 25 seats, including three currently held by JD(U) and HAM, which could lead to disputes. Meanwhile, HAM has demanded 15 seats, warning it may withdraw from the contest if its demands are not met. The BJP’s central parliamentary board is scheduled to finalize its candidate list in early October, ahead of the nomination process for the first phase covering 121 constituencies.
These developments highlight the complexities within the NDA, as parties navigate negotiations and maintain alliance unity ahead of the elections.
