About message extensions
Message extensions allow people to see your ad, click an icon, and contact you directly by text message. With one tap on your ad, people can contact you to book an appointment, get a quote, ask for information, or request a service. Message extensions can help you grow your business by giving people another option to reach you.

This article gives an overview of message extensions.

Before you begin
Message extensions are designed to be shown only to people on phones capable of sending and receiving text messages, and they require your business to have a phone number that is able to receive, process, and send text messages.

How message extensions work
When someone taps the message icon in your ad from their mobile device, their messaging app will open with a pre-populated message that you create.

Example
Nick owns a car dealership, and is running a campaign that tells potential customers about a sale on SUVs. He wants message extensions to quickly communicate with his customers about his inventory. When people tap “Text,” a pre-populated message that Nick chooses shows up in their messaging app.
When someone taps your message icon, you’re charged for a click – just as if the person tapped on your ad to go to your website.

Benefits
More exposure with no extra AdWords cost. Adding message extensions to your ad is easy and free—no cost to you.

Grow your business. Creating message extensions can help you grow your business by making it easy for people to contact you.

Share extension across ad groups or campaigns. Quickly set up your extensions according to your specific needs. One extension can apply across an ad group or entire campaign.

Get ready for Responsive Display Ads. Soon you will just have to give Google a URL, headline, description, and image, and Google will create responsive display ads for you. You will be able to run ads that adapt to the content of the websites they’re on and apps in the GDN. This includes native ad inventory.

This is really cool because it’s a pain to create ads for all the different formats (skyscraper, leaderboard, square, rectangle, etc). Google is eliminating this hassle with Responsive Display Ads – they will figure out the best format for your ad depending on where it is being shown.
The responsive ad for Display is an ad that automatically adjusts its size, appearance, and format to fit available ad spaces on the Google Display Network

With new, expanded text ads, headlines are about to get much bigger – advertisers will soon be able to have two 30-character headlines, up from a single headline of just 25 characters. The Description line has a character limit of 80 characters. In early testing, Google found this change dramatically increased CTR – by as much as 25 percent.

Text ads have appeared to the right of Google's search results since AdWords launched in 2000. No more. They're history. R.I.P.

Google has confirmed a huge change to the way AdWords ads are displayed for desktop search results, and it is now rolling out for all of its users globally. Google is killing off right-side text ads completely – although Product Listing Ads and ads in the Knowledge Panel will continue to be shown on the right – and adding a fourth ad for "highly commercial queries" above the organic search results.

Google had unveiled what it calls the “next generation” of local search ads. These new ads will appear within Google Maps (on the app as well as both the desktop and mobile versions of the site), as well as across Google.com.

In the new ads, brand logos and offers will appear directly on the surface of the map.

About tracking in AdWords
If you’re running ads, you’re already receiving valuable information like the number of times your ads have served and the number of clicks on your ads. But what if you use an analytics system outside of Google and want to track things like which clicks are coming from mobile, or how much of your ad traffic is coming from the Google Search Network versus the Google Display Network? You can access this type of information by setting up tracking in URL options.

This article explains how tracking works in AdWords and what you can set up in URL options. Setting up tracking is a good idea if you’ve been successfully running campaigns and want to know more about your clicks.

How tracking works
Tracking works very closely with your ads’ final URLs. If you don’t use tracking, someone who clicks your ad will go directly to the landing page URL you entered in the “Final URL” field when you set up your ad. If you set up tracking, you can send potential customers to specific landing page URLs that have extra information, like the keyword that triggered your ad or the type of device the person who clicked your ad was using.

Good to know
Setting up URL options at the ad group, campaign, or account level means that you can update your tracking information without resubmitting your ads for approval. If you set them up at the ad, keyword, or sitelink level, your ads will need to go through review.

Using Dynamic Search Ads
Unlike most text ads, which are targeted to queries directly by keywords, Dynamic Search Ads show based on the content of your website. This means you don't have to maintain lists of keywords or landing pages. Here are a few reasons Dynamic Search Ads can be useful for your campaigns:

Dynamic Search Ads uses Google's organic web-crawling technology to automatically target relevant search queries based on your website content
Incremental traffic from Dynamic Search Ads can fill in gaps in your keyword campaigns for great return on investment (ROI)
Dynamic Search Ads offers a powerful way to target ads to many queries through an easy campaign-creation workflow

Remarketing to reach past website visitors and app users.
Remarketing lets you show ads to people who have visited your website or used your mobile app before. When people leave your website without buying anything, for example, remarketing helps you reconnect with them by showing relevant ads as they browse the web, as they use mobile apps, or as they search on Google.

Dynamic remarketing takes this to the next level by including the products or services that people viewed on your website within the ads. While dynamic remarketing takes additional steps such as adding custom parameters to your website’s tag and creating a feed, it can deliver customized, higher-performance ads.

Create an AdWords campaign for your app
Using your Google Play Developer Console, you can create an AdWords campaign to promote your app through ads on Google Play, Google Search, along with sites and apps that are part of the Google Display Network.

Important: If you’re creating an AdWords campaign for the first time on the Developer Console, the account owner needs to set up the first campaign. Once the account owner runs an AdWords campaign on the Developer Console, other account users with "Create AdWords campaigns" permissions can create campaigns.

If you've previously linked an AdWords account to your Google Play Developer account, learn how to use an existing linked AdWords account to create a campaign on the Developer Console

Display Planner: An AdWords tool that provides ideas and estimates to help you plan a Display Network campaign that you can add to your account or download.

Display Planner generates ideas for all the ways you can target the Display Network. Targeting ideas are based on your customers’ interests or your landing page. They include keywords, placements (websites, videos, mobile apps, mobile app categories), topics, interests (affinities, in-market segments), demographics (age, gender), and remarketing.
Each idea comes with impression estimates and historical costs. Think of these estimates and statistics as a guide to help you plan your Display Network campaign, rather than to project future performance.
You can find Display Planner under the Tools tab in your account.

You can search for keyword and ad groups ideas based on terms that are relevant to your product or service, your landing page, or different product categories.
Get historical statistics and traffic forecasts. Use statistics like search volume to help you decide which keywords to use for a new or existing campaign.
