In a significant step towards strengthening academic and research collaboration, Asian Biological Research Foundation (ABRF) and Sikkim Alpine University signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote excellence in higher education, scientific research, innovation, and academic exchange.
The MoU aims to establish a long-term partnership between the two institutions in areas including:

• Joint research projects and publications.
• Organization of conferences, seminars, workshops, and faculty development programmes.
• Academic and scientific exchange of faculty members, researchers, and students.
• Promotion of interdisciplinary research in biological, environmental, and allied sciences.
• Capacity building, skill development, and outreach activities.
• Collaborative initiatives for biodiversity conservation, sustainable development, and environmental awareness.

The collaboration builds upon the existing academic association between the two organizations, which have jointly participated in scientific events such as the 2nd International Conference on Nature and Natural Sciences (ICNS 2026) hosted by Sikkim Alpine University in association with ABRF.

Speaking on the occasion, representatives of both institutions expressed confidence that the partnership will create new opportunities for research, innovation, academic networking, and knowledge sharing at national and international levels. The MoU is expected to facilitate collaborative academic activities that will benefit students, faculty members, and researchers of both organizations.

Both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to promoting quality education, scientific advancement, and sustainable development through meaningful academic cooperation. ABRF's objectives include promoting research, scientific collaboration, biodiversity conservation, and partnerships with universities and research institutions, making it a natural partner for Sikkim Alpine University's academic and research initiatives.

A tragic incident occurred on Saturday morning at Rangchang Bhir along the Dikchu–Singtam road after a rockfall from the hillside struck a person, resulting in death.

Preliminary information suggests that rocks suddenly dislodged from above and fell onto the road, hitting the victim.

WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY OBSERVED AT SIKKIM ALPINE UNIVERSITY WITH AWARENESS AND PLANTATION DRIVE.

On the occasion of World Environment Day , the Geographical Society, Botanical Society, and Zoological Society of Sikkim Alpine University, in collaboration with the Disaster Risk Reduction Club, organized an Environmental Awareness and Plantation Programme to promote environmental stewardship and sustainable living.

The programme witnessed enthusiastic participation from students and faculty members, reflecting their shared commitment to environmental conservation and ecological sustainability. The event aimed to raise awareness about the importance of protecting natural resources, adopting environmentally responsible practices, and addressing pressing environmental challenges.

A key highlight of the programme was the plantation drive conducted across the university campus. Participants planted saplings and engaged in discussions on the crucial role of trees in maintaining ecological balance, enhancing air quality, mitigating climate change, and preserving biodiversity. The activity underscored the significance of collective action in safeguarding the environment for future generations.

To encourage participation and well-being, refreshments including fresh fruits and drinking water were distributed among all attendees. The programme concluded with a pledge to continue supporting environmental protection initiatives and promoting sustainable development in everyday life.

Through this meaningful observance of World Environment Day, Sikkim Alpine University reaffirmed its commitment to fostering environmental awareness and inspiring positive action towards a greener, healthier, and more sustainable future.

An Agniveer Scheme Enrollment & Registration Programme will be organised at Makha under Tumin Lingee Constituency on 23rd March 2026, with the support of Army personnel. The initiative aims to guide and assist aspiring youth in enrolling under the Agniveer Scheme and to create awareness about the opportunities available through the programme.

The organisers express heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble MLA Shri Samdup Tsh. Bhutia for his constant guidance and support towards empowering the youth and facilitating such meaningful initiatives in the constituency.

During the programme, online registration and counselling sessions will be conducted for interested candidates. Officials and Army representatives will be present to address all queries and provide detailed information regarding eligibility, selection procedures, and other aspects of the Agniveer Scheme.

An awareness programme on various Central and State Government schemes was successfully conducted at Patuk Singbel GPK Hall under Patuk Singbel GPU, Gangtok District. The programme was jointly organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC) Gangtok and the Sikkim Entrepreneurship and Economic Development Cell (SEED Cell) with the objective of promoting entrepreneurship and enhancing awareness among aspiring and existing entrepreneurs.

The programme was graced by Biswadeep Sapkota, Hon’ble Zilla Panchayat Member, as the Chief Guest, along with other dignitaries from Patuk Singbel GPU. The event proceedings were efficiently coordinated by Mr. C.M. Chettri, Inspector, DIC Gangtok.

Mr. Bikash Sharma, District Coordinator, SEED Cell, Gangtok, delivered the welcome address, highlighting the importance of disseminating information on Government schemes to empower local entrepreneurs. The keynote address by Mr. Tashi Ongdup Lepcha, State Organisation Secretary, SEED Cell, focused on the vision of the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Sikkim, particularly the “One Family, One Entrepreneur” initiative, and underscored entrepreneurship as a sustainable and dignified livelihood pathway towards building a “Samartha Sikkim.”

Resource persons provided detailed presentations on key schemes including PMEGP, UNNATI Scheme, Prime Minister Vishwakarma Scheme, GeM Portal, PAN and GST compliance, and Online Dispute Resolution (ODR). An interactive session enabled participants to clarify doubts and receive updates on their applications, with officials assuring continued guidance and support.

In his concluding remarks, the Chief Guest appreciated the organisers for the impactful initiative and encouraged the community to actively utilise Government schemes for self-reliance and economic growth. The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by Mr. Bikash Sharma, Joint Coordinator, SEED Cell, Gangtok District.

Overall, the programme reflected the continued efforts of DIC Gangtok and SEED Cell in strengthening entrepreneurship, improving scheme awareness, and fostering inclusive economic development across Sikkim.

Kumari Sharma launched her debut book, “THE VILLAGE THAT CHANGED ME,” at Middle Geyzing Secondary School (Free Coaching Centre) in the presence of Zilla Panchayat Sagar Sharma, faculty members, and over 90 students. The event celebrated literature, learning, and community engagement.

The book is a heartfelt tribute to Sikkim, portraying its landscapes, culture, and people through the journey of the character Mala. It highlights core Sikkimese values such as human connection, sustainability, tradition, and harmony with nature—from the Himalayas to serene monasteries.
