Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang Expresses Condolences Over Teesta Tragedy, Urges Monsoon Travel Caution

Chief Minister Prem Singh Tamang-Golay has expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of four residents of Lingdok under Kabi-Lungchok constituency, whose vehicle was recovered from the Teesta River after they went missing while travelling to Siliguri on June 5.

In a message shared through his official page, the Chief Minister extended his heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family members and prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls. He wished the grieving families strength and courage to overcome the immense loss.

The Chief Minister also conveyed his sincere gratitude to the Government of West Bengal, West Bengal Police and Traffic Police, NDRF personnel, TRRC volunteers, social workers, and local residents for their dedicated efforts during the search and rescue operation.

Describing the incident as a painful reminder of the dangers associated with travel during the monsoon season, Tamang urged the public to exercise utmost caution, avoid unnecessary travel, remain updated on weather and road conditions, and strictly follow safety advisories issued by authorities to prevent such tragedies in the future.

SIKKIM RUNNERS SHINE IN PUNE
Huge Congratulations to our Star Runners who shined at The Great Mawla Ghati Ultra Trail Run in Pune, Maharashtra.
1) Pritam Rai secured a Spectacular 2nd Place in the grueling 100 km Category.
2) Ozzeyswari Rai secured a stellar 4th place in the challenging 25 km.
Battling extreme endurance tests and severe weather reaching 35 degrees, their unstoppable willpower carried them across the finish line. Both runners are promising students trained under the guidance of Sikkim's "Marathon Man," Amar S***a.
Congratulations to the champions for showcasing true grit and stamina on the National Stage.

*20 Families from Arithang & Gangtok Constituency Join BJP*
Gangtok, June 06, 2026 :

In a significant boost to the party’s grassroots presence in Sikkim, 20 families from Arithang and Gangtok constituencies formally joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) today during a joining ceremony held at the Party’s City Office, Gangtok.

The programme was chaired by BJP Sikkim State President Shri D.R. Thapa in the presence of senior party leaders and functionaries. Prominent individuals who joined the party included Smt. Rajni Gurung, Former President of All Sikkim Chalak Morcha; Shri Mingma Sherpa, Former President of Truck Drivers Association; Shri J.B. Chettri, Former President of Truck Owners Association; Shri Dinesh Karki, Coordinator of Truck Driver cm Owner Association; Shri Sabin Chettri, In-charge of Mainline Truck Drivers Association; Smt. Ashika Bardeva; Smt. Zina Pradhan, a prominent businesswoman; and several other notable individuals from Arithang and Gangtok Constituency. State President Shri D.R. Thapa, along with senior party leaders, extended a warm welcome to the new members.

Addressing the gathering, State President Shri Thapa thanked the new members for choosing to join the world’s largest political party and urged them to uphold the ideology, discipline, and programmes of the BJP. He called upon the new members to actively participate in people-centric initiatives and work towards empowering citizens through various Central Government schemes, with the goal of building an Atmanirbhar (Self-Reliant) Society and an Atmanirbhar Sikkim. Highlighting the party’s alliance with the ruling front in the state, he encouraged them to work fearlessly and dedicate themselves to public service and people’s welfare.

The joining of prominent personalities defines the steadily growing influence and acceptance of the BJP at the ground level in Sikkim, along with increasing faith in the party’s leadership and the visionary governance of Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi.

सिटिजन एक्सन पार्टी–सिक्किमको महिला परिषदको समन्वय सभा जोर्थाङस्थित पार्टीको क्षेत्रीय कार्यालयमा श्रीमती सुमती छेत्रीको अध्यक्षतामा सफलतापूर्वक सम्पन्न भयो।

सभामा बुनियादी सुविधाका लागि आम नागरिकले निरन्तर संघर्ष गरिरहेको अवस्था, युवाहरूको सपना तथा भविष्यसँग भइरहेको खेलवाड, र अन्य जनसरोकारका विषयहरूमा विस्तृत छलफल गरियो। सहभागीहरूले नागरिकका समस्याहरू समाधानका लागि सिटिजन एक्सन पार्टी–सिक्किमले निरन्तर रूपमा आवाज उठाउँदै आएको र त्यसका कारण विभिन्न समस्याहरू समाधानतर्फ उन्मुख भएको विषयमा विशेष चर्चा गरे।

गहन छलफलपश्चात् सोरेङ जिल्लाको सिटिजन एक्सन पार्टी–सिक्किम महिला परिषदको कार्यकारिणी समितिमा शान्ति तामाङ, नमिता राई, रेनु तामाङ, याङ्छेन शेर्पा, जमुना थापा तथा सबिना सुवेदीलाई चयन गरिएको छ।

अध्यक्षीय सम्बोधनका क्रममा श्रीमती सुमती छेत्रीले घरपरिवार सञ्चालनको मुख्य जिम्मेवारी प्रायः महिलाहरूले निर्वाह गर्ने गरेको उल्लेख गर्दै वर्तमान समयमा ग्यास सिलिन्डरको मूल्यवृद्धिका कारण महिलाहरूले प्रत्यक्ष रूपमा विभिन्न समस्या भोग्नुपरेको बताइन्।

उनले ग्रामीण क्षेत्रका नागरिकहरूले ग्यास सिलिन्डरका लागि औसत मूल्यभन्दा दोब्बर वा तेब्बर रकम तिर्न बाध्य भएको अवस्थाप्रति चिन्ता व्यक्त गर्दै, यस समस्यालाई वर्तमान सरकारले बुझेर पनि आवश्यक सम्बोधन र समाधानका पहल नगरेको आरोप लगाइन्। यसले जनसरोकारका विषयप्रति सरकारको इमानदारिता माथि प्रश्न उठाएको उनको भनाइ थियो।

श्रीमती छेत्रीले सत्ता र व्यक्तिगत सुविधाका लागि मात्र राजनीति नगरी आम नागरिकको सुविधा, अवसर र अधिकारका लागि पनि काम गर्नुपर्ने चुनौती पी०एस गोले नेतृत्वमा रहेको सरकारलाई दिइन्।

उनले सिटिजन एक्सन पार्टी–सिक्किमलाई सिक्किमे नागरिकको पक्षमा इमानदारीपूर्वक मुद्दा उठाउने तथा सत्तापक्षका गलत नीतिविरुद्ध जनचेतना फैलाउने एकमात्र राजनीतिक संगठन भएको दाबी गर्दै महिला परिषदलाई पार्टीको मेरुदण्डका रूपमा सक्रिय भूमिका निर्वाह गर्न आह्वान गरिन्।

सभालाई सन्जु राई, बिना शर्मा, अर्पणा राई, दिलमती लिम्बु, अन्जु शर्मा, इडु छिरिङ भुटिया, शान्ति तामाङ, कर्मा दिछेन भुटिया, इन्दिरा प्रदान लगायतका नेतृहरूले सम्बोधन गरेका थिए।
