Before you say Happy Independence Day, take a moment to remember the people who made that freedom possible.
Some names are carved into every history book.
Others were buried by time.
From Kanaklata Barua, who marched towards a police station with the tricolour in her hands, to Kushal Konwar, who walked to the gallows for a crime he did not commit. From Maniram Dewan and Piyoli Phukan to Bhogeswari Phukanani, Tilweswari Barua, Malati Mem, Gopinath Bordoloi and countless others who chose resistance over submission.
They came from Assam.
They were farmers, students, leaders, mothers and ordinary people who made extraordinary choices.
They did not fight for recognition.
They fought so that one day, we could live free.
And perhaps the least we can do today is remember their names.
10 stories. 10 sacrifices. One shared dream: FREEDOM. 🇮🇳
If you’re from Assam, don’t let these names be forgotten.
Share this with someone who should know the story of Assam’s freedom fighters.
This Independence Day, remember the heroes who history almost forgot.
