VISION:
To bring Assamese traditional products (Assam silk, bamboo and cane crafts, Brass and metal crafts) to mainstream as well as improve the standard of living of the artisans involved in producing those products.

Meet Mr. Bipin Das, a 63 year old weaver, humble and hardworking yet emotional about his profession. When he was 10 years old he worked as a laborer under a Mahajan and continued it till he was 15 years old, thereafter he started making designs to be woven on products, which he continued till the age of 45 years. Struggling his way through, he managed to purchase 2 looms when he was 17 years of age which has increased to 9 loom at present. There were times when the family was struck with financial crisis and had to work on other’s loom as well. He has son, Mr. Montu Kr. Das (2nd generation weaver), who is also involved in weaving since the age of 15 years and has inculcated the characteristics of his father of being honest and humble.
At present Mr. Bipin Das holds the position of ‘In-charge’ of Sualkuchi Silk Testing Laboratory.

Lets meet Mr. Tapan Baishya. A 3rd generation weaver, involved in weaving right from his 3rd standard after they migrated from Karbi Anglong. His entire family is involved in field of weaving for last 60 years. His father owned 2 looms in Karbi Anglong but due to some circumstances have to close it down but Mr. Tapan’s keen interest in weaving and love for silk made him restart the business. Mr. Tapan is very creative in nature and constantly works in improving the design and quality of the product.

This is Mr. Kalyan Kalita, 28 years old 2nd generation weaver, involved in this field for past 4 years. His father was a laborer and worked under someone until he built up the capacity to purchase a loom and self-employ. At present he has 10 looms, 2 fly shuttles. Mr. Kalyan Kalita does the designing himself and deals in traditional design only. He provides extra benefits to the laborers working under him to improve their standard of living.

This is Hiralal Kalita, a middle-aged hardworking weaver, enthusiastic and passionate about his work. He belongs to Sualkuchi and is a 2nd generation weaver in his family. Hiralal runs a small cottage industry with 10 handlooms and budding weavers. He is an Authorized User of Silk Mark Organization of India (SMOI). He has been working as a weaver for the past 22 years. The art and skill he possesses deserves national as well as global recognition.
