WHEREAS, it has been reported that many traders in East Kameng district are selling Products beyond its Maximum Retail Price (MRP).
AND WHEREAS, as per section 2(f) of Consumer Goods(Mandatory Printing Of Cost Of Production And Maximum Retail Price) Act of 2006 and Legal Meteorology Rules (Pre-Packed Commodities) PCR, 2011, consumers cannot be charged more than MRP that is mentioned on the packing of the product.
AND WHEREAS, Maximum Retail Price ensures that seller does not charge anything above the Maximum Retail Price from the customer and it is illegal to sell product at a price that is more than the marked price.
AND WHEREAS, as per section 36 of Legal Meteorology Act, charging above MRP Is an offence for which traders can be prosecuted with a fine up to Rs 25000/- for the first offence and it an increase to Rs 50000/- for the second offence and subsequent offences can attract fine upto Rs 1 lakh or imprisonment for one year or both.
THEREFORE, all traders under East Kameng district are hereby directed to ensure that no product is sold beyond Its marked price. Any violation in this regard shall be dealt strictly as per the provisions mentioned and trade license shall be cancelled without further notice.
