Why no FIR against Republic TV for airing fake news, netizens question police

>>> Jammu Kashmir Police came under sharp criticism for not registering an FIR against Arnob Goswami owned Republic Bharat TV for running a fake news about the ransacking of the house of a slain Pandit Sarpanch in South Kashmir's Anantnag district.

Republic TV which is known for its anti Muslim rants ran a ticker that the house of a deceased Pandit Sarpanch Ajay Pandita Bharti has been ransacked. Pandita was shot dead by militants some days ago in Larkipora area of the district.

SSP Anantnag Mr Sandeep took to Twitter and asked Republic TV to stop spreading fake news. SSP said his house is safe and attached the photographs of the house along with the tweet.

Police sources told News Agency KNT that shortly after the fabricated news report was run by Republic TV, SSP Anantnag Mr Sandeep sought details from concerned SHO, who not only sent the photographs of the house of deceased Pandita to SSP but also confirmed that Republic has run a fake news.

Netizens reacted sharply to the tweet of SSP Mr Sandeep. Majority of them demanded lodgement of an FIR against the Republic TV and the Reporter, even some questioned the conviction of police, saying it is quick to act against local Reporters only.

"Let us assume this fake news would have been run by any local Reporter.....We know about the repercussions," wrote a netizen.

Police have lodged various cases against the local organizations and Reporters for running alleged fake news reports but at the same it never bothered to act against non Kashmiri media outlets.

A couple of years ago a Kashmiri Pandit known for his communal remarks posted a fake news claiming that Muslims have set a temple in Anantnag on fire. No action was initiated against him.

On the other hand police registered an FIR against a news agency for reporting facts about a protest in Srinagar. The news agency had reported that CRPF fired a rubber bullet that was hit on the foot of a lady. Police refuted this fact and registered an FIR, even though the doctor treating the girl had admitted that she had received a rubber bullet in her foot. KNT

After Pangong Tso, Galwan, China blocks Indian patrols in DBO area

*Military sources have revealed that China has been blocking Indian army patrols from going up to patrolling points 10 to 13 in the Daulat Beg Oldi sector near the LAC*

>>> After creating trouble along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh's Pangong Tso area and the Galwan River Valley, China has now started creating trouble for Indian patrols in the Daulat Beg Oldi area between patrolling points 10 and 13.

Top sources told Aajtak and India Today TV that the intent of the Chinese is now becoming clearer as they want to encroach areas near the Karakoram Pass and get depth for their highways which move towards Pakistan and Europe through countries moving through the Shenzhen region above the Indian territory.

*“In the DBO sector, the Chinese want to create troubles for us and have been blocking our patrols from going up to our patrolling points 10 to 13 in that area. These are adjoining the Galwan River Valley and are close to the Indian battalions in the DBO sector,”* they said.

Sources said that the Chinese have also used their road infrastructure in the rear positions to swiftly move heavy vehicles and artillery closer to the LAC near PP 15, PP 17 and PP 17 A.

The DBO sector represents Indian presence on the Aksai Chin plateau which otherwise is mostly controlled by the Chinese.

Despite consensus on partial disengagement in these areas, the Chinese have further bolstered their troops' movement and construction activities.

In the finger area of Pangong Tso as well, the Chinese have continued to build up their strength and fortified their positions on the finger four and adjoining parts.

The Chinese have also deployed Sukhoi-30 aircraft in the rear positions and they have been carrying out regular sorties close to the Indian territory.

Presence of air defence gun batteries of long-range have also been detected and this has been done to tackle the major threat from Indian Air Force fighter aircraft operating in the area.

India and China have so far held two rounds of General-level talks where they have agreed to disengage further.

However, the Chinese have failed to honour their commitments and assurances agreed upon during the talks at the senior-most level.

Army holds clash area as PLA blocks 8km Pangong stretch

NEW DELHI: There is still some lack of clarity about the exact ground situation in the Galwan Valley region of eastern Ladakh. But there is little doubt that Chinese soldiers have built dozens of new fortifications and bunkers after physically occupying an almost 8-km stretch of what India considers its own territory along the Pangong Tso since early-May.
Chinese troops have also taken control of the heights to dominate ‘Finger-4 to 8’ (mountainous spurs) area on the north bank of Pangong Tso, adroitly utilising the time when bilateral military talks were underway on the troop confrontations at Patrolling Points 14, 15 and 17 in the Galwan Valley and Gogra-Hot Springs areas.
Official sources on Saturday said the Indian Army is now “holding” the area near PP-14 in the Galwan Valley region, which was the location of the bloody skirmish that left 20 Indian soldiers dead and 76 injured on June 15. After the clash, the Army said, "Indian and Chinese troops have disengaged at the Galwan area where they had earlier clashed on the night of 15/16 June 2020."
Complete coverage of LAC face-off
“The two rival armies are more or less on their own sides of the line of actual control (LAC) in the Galwan region. But there is no disengagement (in the broader sense), with military build-ups being present on both sides,” said an official source.
