धोंडीबा भागू झोरे. पुण्यातला एक साधा रिक्षा चालक. गेल्या मंगळवारी (२८/१२/२१) हा माणूस वेळेवर धावून आला नसता तर आमच्या मुलींची (माझी मुलगी आणि भाची) काय दुरवस्था झाली असती याची आम्ही नक्कीच कल्पना करू शकतो. रात्री ८-८II च्या दरम्यान स्कूटरवरून जाणाऱ्या या दोघी बहिणींचा पुण्यातल्या सुतारवाडी पुलाजवळ रस्त्यावरील खड्ड्यामुळे जोरदार अपघात झाला. दोघीही अस्ताव्यस्त फेकल्या गेल्या. सुदैवाने मागून कोणतं वाहन येत नव्हतं. पण दोघींनाही चांगलाच मार लागला. सर्वांग रक्ताने माखलं. कापडं फाटली. जवळच्या सर्व वस्तू विखुरल्या. पोरींना काहीच कळलं नाही. दोघीही चांगल्याच भेदरल्या होत्या. त्यांना बोलताही येत नव्हतं. लोक जमले आणि त्यातून या देव माणसाने कोणाचीही वाट न बघता, एक क्षणही न दवडता दोन्ही पोरीना उचलून रिक्षात ठेवलं. त्यांच्या विखुरलेल्या सर्व वस्तू गोळा करून रिक्षात टाकल्या आणि मोठ्या हिकमतीने रिक्षा उलट्या बाजूने, सिग्नल न जुमानता सुसाट पळवत अपघात झाल्यापासून १५ मिनिटात जवळच्या दवाखान्यात पोहचवलं. रिक्षाप्रवासाच्या या इनमिन ७-८ मिनिटांच्या प्रवासात टेक्नोलॉजीच्या योग्य वापराचा चमत्कार दिसला. माझ्या मुलीला, रश्मीला, तिच्या एका मित्राचा, स्वप्नील, सहज म्हणून फोन आला. तिने त्याला ‘अपघात झाला आहे.’ एवढच कसंतरी सांगितलं. तो तुळजापुरला होता. त्याने फेसबुक, इन्स्टाग्रामचा वापर करत रश्मीसोबत राहणाऱ्या, तिच्या ऑफिसमधल्या व कॉलेजमधील मित्र-मैत्रिणींचे फोन नंबर शोधून काढले आणि त्यांना पटापट कळवलं. पुढच्या अर्धा-पाउण तासात सगळी फौज दवाखान्यात पोहोचली. रश्मीचा मित्र प्रतिक त्याच्या सगळ्या कुटुंबाला घेऊन दवाखान्यात पोहचला. भाचीला जास्त मार लागला असल्याने तिला दुसऱ्या दवाखान्यात पोहोचवण्यापासून तर रश्मीला सर्व उपचार पूर्ण करून तिच्या खोलीवर पोहोचवेपर्यंतचे सर्व सोपस्कार त्यांनी पार पाडले. आणि नंतर आम्हाला कळवलं! या सर्वांचा पैसासुद्धा खर्च झाला आहे याची आम्हाला जाणीव आहे. पण यापैकी कोणीही आम्हाला सांगितले नाही, सुचवलेही नाही आणि जाणवूही दिले नाही. अगदी आजपर्यंत. अपघातस्थळी गाडी एका बाजूला व्यवस्थित लावलेली आहे याचीसुद्धा जाताजाता धोंडीबा आणि इतरांनी खात्री केली होती. अशा या धोंडीबाला भेटण्यासाठी फोन केला आणि खर्चाची विचारणा केली तेव्हा धोंडीबाचं उत्तरं ऐकून डोळ्यांत पाणी आलं. धोंडीबाने हे पैशांसाठी केलं नाही हे माहीत असूनही कर्तव्य म्हनून मी विचारले तेव्हा धोंडीबाने आधी पोरींची चौकशी केली आणि ‘मला पैसे नको. पोरींचा जीव महत्त्वाचा आहे. तुम्हाला काही द्यायचेच असेल तर पोलिसांसमोर मला फक्त एक पुष्प गुच्छ द्या. पोलिसांना रिक्षावालेही चांगले असतात, त्यांच्याकडेही माणुसकी असते हे कळू द्या एवढीच इच्छा आहे.’ असे कळकळीने सांगितलं. या सर्वांपुढे काय बोलणार? आजही असे लोक आहेत ही किती समाधानाची बाब आहे! आणि पोरीने घरापासून लांब असं जीवाभावाचं मैत्र जुळवलेलं आहे यापेक्षा आई-वडिलाना दुसरा आनंद तो काय? सर्वांनाच असे धोंडीबा आणि मैत्र मिळोत आणि सगळेचजण ‘धोंडीबा’ होवोत.
