What is the best marketing strategy?

This is the most frequent question I receive.
The best marketing strategy is this one which is carefully prepared and based on market, competitors and customers analysis.
Business owners like to be deceived by marketing gurus who promise the “new, untapped, best ever marketing strategy which will skyrocket your revenue”.
A friend of mine (my current client) owns a big factory which produces Plumbing accessories with pretty good revenue.
He accidentally found a YouTube video from the owner of a top digital agency who told about new untapped algorithms in SEO and promised the boost of sales for any kind of business.
My friend called them and scheduled a meeting. During the meeting digital agency once more assured him how his company will grow from SEO and offered a INR 10000 package per month.
Agency promised the first results my friend will see after 6 months.
Six months later nothing changed.
My friend’s company didn’t get more leads from SEO and didn’t generate any additional revenue despite their website ranked much well in Google.
So all the INR 60,000 agency payments were a complete loss.
Why?
Because he runs a business based on traditional direct sales when sales rep should visit the wholesalers, negotiate with DIY chains and supply retail stores.
Only the end users (direct customers) are searching it in Google. And they definitely weren’t the target auditory of my friend’s company.
That’s why you should always think twice before applying any “best marketing strategy you’ve ever heard”
