"As a man I'd like to apologise for my gender's history"- says one of the central characters and this is just one moment when you know the show is here to shatter all hush-hush and stereotypical portrayals. The best part? It does so in the wraps of comedy.

Brooklyn 99 shows the adventures of a bunch of police officers posted in the 99th precinct of the New York Police Department under the leadership of their captain, Raymond Holt. What catches your eyes first is the diversity in the composition of the group. Each character is intelligently sketched, providing them a wide span and layered depth of personality. As they embark upon their regular police duty, they encounter situations which are sometimes hilarious, sometimes tense but always ending in a sigh of relief and a lesson for them and us.

One of the many reasons why we love Brooklyn 99 is its sensitive treatment of the LGBTQ community, the difficulties women face, mental health, motherhood, racism and in fact, every issue that it takes up.

The show has entertained us for 7 seasons and very soon our favourite on-screen characters will bid us adieu with the last season.

Before that, we decided to look retrospectively, and although it was very difficult to choose, here are our favourite nine moments which we found iconic!

We are eagerly waiting for the 8th season to air. Meanwhile, we definitely recommend you to catch it up on Netflix. Believe us, you will have some great lines to use with your friends and some more amazing moments to cherish and laugh on!

And fans, do let us know your thoughts so that we can go "Oh Mama!" together!

4th week of GIRL, WOMAN AND OTHER: VOICE OF THE UNHEARD.

Simone Biles, gymnastics champion from USA has decided to opt out of the Olympics games which has stirred much controversy.

In her words, "There's more to life than gymnastics. I just think mental health is more prevalent in sports right now...we have to protect our mind and our bodies and not just go out and do what the world wants us to do.
We are not just athletes, we are people at the end of the day and sometimes you just have to step back. I feel like a lot of athletes speaking up has really helped."

Here's our thoughts on it as we fully realise the importance of her decision.

We, at Libertas Omnium are still at shock from having received the news of the slaying of the 38 year old photojournalist on the 16th of this month. He had been embedded with the Afghan forces, and lost his life while covering the clashes between the Afghan forces and the militant organisation Taliban near Afghanistan-Pakistan border.

The locals recall how he had been "ambushed by the Taliban". One local tells journalist Ruchi Kumar, “As a community elder and someone who has watched this crisis for many weeks now from the very frontlines, I wouldn’t recommend any civilians to come to this frontline. Surely not an Indian.”

The Taliban however have denied their role in his Siddiqui's death. "We are not aware during whose firing the journalist was killed. We do not know how he died," Taliban’s spokesperson Zabiullah Mujahid told CNN-News18 on Friday.

The killing of Danish exposes many ugly truths in their bare raw form, including the futility of the long ongoing Afghan war. Journalists have been employed in the decade long war, however, reports couldn't analyse why the Taliban has gained stronghold over the country, despite the US backing of the Afghan Government. It directly points at the long standing view that the Taliban and Al-Qaeda are nothing but US policy of reaping on war spoils run amok. We have tried to discuss some of them, within the limits of our knowledge and understanding.

He has been put to rest in the campus of his Alma Mater.

His untimely passing away is not only a huge irreparable loss for photojournalism, but also for the society as a whole, as his shots have time and again compelled the collective human conscience to rise and ask questions. We are beyond despondent as we present this post on him. May he live on through his clicks.

For stories behind some of his most powerful clicks, watch Brut India's video.

We are concluding our observation of the Non-binary Awareness Week with this special post...

Gender, s*x, gender identity, gender expression etc may seem to get complex to understand, more so as one tries to delve deeper. Authors and philosophers have put forward theories and explanations which explore these very basic characteristics of human beings, which interestingly are also unique to us in the animal kingdom.

Today we have tried to share with you what we have learned from Judith Butler's work.

Judith Pamela Butler is an American philosopher and gender theorist whose work has influenced political philosophy, ethics, and the fields of third-wave feminism, q***r theory, and literary theory.

Butler's concept of gender performativity is one of the foundational and most important works of q***r theory. Although her work has been the subject to many misconceptions with many of her examples concerning drag and trans identity being heralded as problematic, we can't neglect her contribution to the forming of the idea of gender as a social construct.

We hope you find this audacious attempt of ours as informative!

Since it's Non-binary awareness week, for this week's FEMINOSCOPE: ART UNDER FEMINIST LENS we chose to feature some enby artists who gifted themselves exceptional success in their respective fields.

Going beyond the binary construct society has made and set for us, and building an identity of oneself a major faction does not approve of is an accomplishment in itself. And here are these people shattering ceilings and proudly facing the world being themselves while at the same time, leaving a mark of their talents on history! Their utilisation of the status their accomplishments have provided is beyond inspiring for others!

For us, if you have embraced yourself proudly or are trying ways to deal with the struggles you are faced with, you are no less than a celebrity!

It's Wednesday again and we are back with our series, 'GIRL, WOMAN AND OTHER: VOICE OF THE UNHEARD'.

Today is the International Non-binary People's Day. It is observed each year on 14 July, to try to raise awareness around the issues faced by non-binary people around the world. The day was first celebrated in 2012. This day was chosen as it roughly lies between the International Women's Day and the International Men's Day.

When it comes to accepting gender identities beyond the binary, we have come a long way and there is yet miles to go. This is a small attempt on our part to share with you all what we have learned and what we think about it.

Please let us know if it helped you!

Politics can be a quagmire of terms, slogans, phrases and ideologies. To help unknot the morass, Libertas Omnium brings you IDEOSYNCRASY, our weekly breakdown of political schools of thought.

We inaugurate the series with our favourite topic, and the very basic philosophy we believe in. We will be elaborating on the origin of gender differences and the history of struggle against it, paying homage to the leaders and the unnamed 'she-roes' who have contributed their lives in giving us what we can enjoy today. At the same time, we realise that the world has not seen its dawn yet and hence will try to throw light on how Feminism is relevant and in fact necessary in today's day and age.

So stay tuned and embark on this journey with us, as we learn and share our thoughts on Feminism! Today's the first episode- Introduction to the terminologies.

For the second episode of FEMINOSCOPE: ART UNDER FEMINIST LENS we chose to watch 'Bridgerton', an eight episode series on Netflix which is Chris Van Dusen’s adaptation of Julia Quinn’s 'Bridgerton' novels.

Set in the 19th century London, the show takes us through a journey of gossips and scandals and ambitions and love affairs of the high class society. There are elaborate balls filled with laughter, opulent gardens with beautiful flowers, exquisite dresses of satin and silk and merely do we get a glimpse of the lower strata of the society which is shown in a stark contrast to the above, in being an atmosphere reeking of scarcity, of fight to make ends meet, unhygienic and as though eternally unhappy.

The society is no doubt patriarchal, where a woman fears that a general in the army would not reply to a Duchess' letter lacking the Duke's sign underneath. Only sons can inherit property. A gay man tells his friend that he risks every day of his life for love. And above all, a lady author cannot reveal herself. So there are moments of escapade into freedom, but no woman is truly free or treated as equals to their male counterparts.

But on one hand we find independent women like Genevieve Delacroix, the modiste and Siena, the orchestra singer working to make money and on the other, women like Daphne and Marina, who even trapped in the society's game show nerve to make their own decisions.

Hence, here we are, discussing what we loved about the female characters. Because a simple act of affirming her presence in an otherwise unequal environment is still a rebellion.

Do we want a second season?
Absolutely yes!

If not for anything then for Eloise, the girl who believes herself to be perfectly capable of breaking the shackles of marriage and "wants to fly". After all, as one of the characters says, "It takes courage to live outside the traditional expectations of society."

We are happy and proud at the same time to start our Wednesday series on women and the LGBTQ community: "GIRL, WOMAN AND OTHER: VOICE OF THE UNHEARD" by commemorating the 64th anniversary of the legendary tennis player Althea Gibson's win of the Women's single at the Wimbledon as a first African American woman on 6th July, 1957.

We at Libertas Omnium believe in the historic oppression of the "second s*x" and the q***r community and we want to recognise their struggle towards an equal ecosystem. This was why the idea of starting the aforementioned series was begotten. Today we salute this extraordinary sportsperson who was successful in shattering the challenges posed before her. We hope we all continue to get inspired by her!

06/07/2021

We are heartbroken to start our series on daily affairs: THE LIBERTY TIMES mourning the demise of Stanislaus Lourduswamy, Jesuit priest, tribal rights worker and prisoners activist as he becomes the latest entry in a long and abominable list of dead political prisoners.
For decades he had fought against the poverty, prejudices, non-implementation of public sector policies that define the hardships of adivasi and moolvasi people. It is ironically predictable that a majoritarian state hell-bent on throttling dissents would accuse him of having maoist links and arrest him under the draconian UAP(A) act in the Elgar Parishad-Bhima Koregaon case. Even in the absence of any proof against his charges the octogenarian had been denied bail a total of three times, the last time being a mere 15 days before his demise. In a case where the key evidence has been allegedly planted by a cyber attack; the centre, judiciary and NIA has shown complete complacency to the plight of ailing Swamy and other prisoners. Suffering from Parkinson's disease he was denied a sipper and straw by the system.

As we stand today in protest of his killing, it is equally important to remember that we stand for the 3000 people unlawfully charged and incarcerated by the state and the people who are denied land-ownership and are constantly deprived of resources to the verge of extinction.
