Festival Overview
The festival is dedicated to Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu, celebrating his eternal ideals of honor, righteousness, and devotion.
Two major classical dance forms — Odissi and Kathak — complement each other in exploring Rama’s life and values, each through its own aesthetic language.
Together, these forms do not merge, but converse — offering two classical visions of the same timeless ideal.
Kasba Surer Kheya – Introduction
In the cultural context of India, the concept of a school has existed since the Vedic Age, known as the Gurukul system — the foundation of the Guru–Shishya Parampara, especially in the realm of performing arts.
Among the many torchbearers of classical dance, Chandrani Ghosh stands out as one of the most evolved artists. Her dream of Kasba Surer Kheya, envisioned in 2003, gave rise to a vibrant institution dedicated to nurturing young talents in Odissi classical dance.
Under Chandrani’s guidance, students receive formal training and cultural exposure at higher levels. Every year, Kasba Surer Kheya organizes Odissi dance workshops, providing a platform for emerging artists to perform and grow.
Beyond dance techniques, Kasba Surer Kheya emphasizes holistic development — offering yoga classes, handicraft workshops, and stage makeup training, all conducted periodically to enrich the students’ artistic journey.
