Most brands don't have an ex*****on problem.
They have a question problem.

When you ask:
"How do we get more engagement?"
you'll get one kind of answer.

When you ask:
"Why should people care?"
Everything changes.

Better marketing usually starts before the first post is made.

One word. Two definitions.

The gap between them is usually where brands get stuck.
Applause feels good. A conversation that moves someone closer to a yes builds something.

Zomato broke almost every marketing rule.

No discounts. No CTAs. No urgency.
And yet, the only food app Indians actually talk about.

Great marketing isn't about the playbook. It's about knowing what your customer is feeling before they do.

A calendar answers one question: when are we posting?

It has nothing to say about why anyone should stop scrolling, trust you, or reach out.

Most brands have the calendar. That's why they're busy. Not growing.

Those answers don't live in a calendar. They live in a strategy.

This one is for the founder quietly blaming themselves.

More hooks. More posting. More studying of the algorithm. Still nothing.

That's not a skill problem. It's a structural problem.

One person can't think strategically about something they're too busy executing.

This shift happens so quietly you don't notice it happening.

You start with a real question: what does our audience actually need? And somewhere between the content calendar and the Monday morning deadline, it becomes: what are we posting this week?

Same words. Completely different starting point. Completely different result.

If your content feels like it's spinning its wheels, go back to the first question. The answer is usually still there. It just stopped being the starting point.

The brief was probably three words: make it memorable.

What came back was a 60-year philosophy. Never show the product. Never demonstrate the result. Never compete on features.

Just tell stories that make the product feel inevitable.

There's a version of this available to every brand. It starts with one question most brands never ask themselves: What do we want to mean to people?

Instagram is testing per-slide captions on carousels.

Each photo or video gets its own caption. No more one paragraph trying to carry an entire post.

For brands, this format is finally catching up to how good content actually works. One slide, one job, one thing to say. Repeat.

The brands that use it best won't be the ones that write the most. They'll be the ones who already knew what each slide was for.

The advice sounds strategic. It's actually a stall.

"Know your audience" keeps brands busy researching instead of deciding.

The brands that convert aren't the ones with the most detailed buyer persona documents. They're the ones who made a call about exactly who they're writing to and committed to it.

Specificity is a choice, not a research outcome.

Airbnb didn't beat hotels. Oatly didn't beat dairy.
Notion didn't beat Microsoft Word.

They each asked a different question:
not "how do we win this category"
but "why does this category even need to exist?"

The moment you frame your brand against a competitor,
you've already accepted their rules.

What frame of reference are you building for your audience?
That answer is your actual strategy.
