How to increase flowers of Chrysanthemum or Chandramallika flowering plant?
Pinching is a horticultural practice used to encourage bushier growth and increased flowering in chrysanthemum plants.
Here's how to do it effectively:
1. Timing of Pinching:
• First Pinch: Pinch off the growing tips when the plant reaches about 6 inches in height. This usually happens in early spring or when new growth emerges.
• Subsequent Pinching: Repeat pinching every 2-3 weeks until mid-July. Stop pinching by mid-summer to allow flower buds to form for the blooming season.
2. How to Pinch:
• Use your thumb and forefinger or a pair of clean scissors to remove the top 1-2 inches of the stem, including the terminal bud.
• Ensure you leave at least 4-6 leaves on the stem after pinching.
3. Benefits of Pinching:
• Encourages lateral branching, leading to a bushier plant.
• Increases the number of flower buds.
• Ensures uniform flowering across the plant.
4. Additional Tips:
• Fertilization: Apply a balanced fertilizer (e.g., 10-10-10) regularly to support new growth after pinching.
• Watering: Keep the soil evenly moist but not waterlogged.
• Light: Ensure the plant gets full sunlight for optimal growth and flower production.
• Support: Use stakes or support rings for taller varieties to prevent branches from breaking under the weight of flowers.
