Charnock’s City was launched in 1998 and was the harbinger for the super market trend in Kolkata. One of the oldest landmark eateries in the area. Charnock’s specializes in robust Indian cuisine, with a sprinkling of Continental dishes. Located atop a building, you’ll get a good view of the Salt Lake Stadium and parts of the township if you sit near the French windows. Recommended by their ardent fans, some of the favourites here include Daab Chingri, Chitol Machher Muithya, Kancha Lanka Ilish, Koi Machher Horogouri, Beckti Paturi, Mahi Tikka Masala, Samundari Najrana, Akbari Gosht, Lobster Thermidor, Roast Chicken, Rani Charnock (a lamb preparation) and Dill Fish Melange. Charnock’s successfully ran company with restaurants as the crowning glory. Till today it is the only restaurant in Calcutta with a full view of Saltlake city.
This year, Charnock’s restaurant marks its 15th anniversary, celebrating with a festival to invite a revisit. The world coastal food festival at charnock’s Salt Lake is a celebration of diversity of fine coastal cuisine, wine, music and lots of fun. The unique fusionof flavours have been handpicked from different corners of the world. The culinary delights take full advantage of local sea and mountains while incorporating culinary influences of neighboring countries.
Mexican cuisine is as complex as any of the great cuisines in the world. It is created mostly with ingredients native to Mexico… In addition to staples such as corn and chili peppers, native ingredients include tomatoes, squashes, avocados, mangoes, bananas, pineapple and cherimoya (custard apple) are popular.In addition to these Mexican Nachos and tacos have become world famous. Charnok’s Nacho salad is a sure hit. These will pair beautifully with Mexican rum based drinks.
Then comes Charnok’s Cuban delights specially marinated with Cuban mojo based marinades. Charnok’s culinary journey stars from shores of south America, California, Mediterranean coast, Kerala and South east Asian coast. As the flavors are diverse, so is the taste. Charnok’s chefs have created a bevy of interesting paired menu, be it with rum beer wine or plain fruit juice. Look out for Charnok’s special weekend branch menu with many surprises. And there are much to celebrate. There are plenty of fine-dining restaurants in Saltlake that offer a polished, cosseted experience. But Charnock’s offers something more- it’s interesting food.
This festival have always been a means of uniting communities through celebrations of harvests and giving thanks for a plentiful growing season. They could be traced back thousands of years to celebrate the arrival of harvest time, the autumnal equinox, and the honoring of earth gods.
