2011 for us was a year marked by many disappointments and a few successes. A year of immense learning. The key one I think is the importance of touch, feel and voice in a world becoming more and more connected but less and less personal. Emails do get returned but the kind of information one gets with a voice call, even small bits of information can prove to be the difference between winning and losing. My resolution for 2012 – do whatever can be done face to face and via telephone that way! Email is a last resort.
Coming back to the disappointments, there were many, mostly related to losing projects we really wanted to win. Some didn’t happen and some went to competitors. Last year led us to think deeply about how we could differentiate ourselves in a market that is deeply saturated, where it is hard to sustain a creative edge and to hold on to directorial talent exclusively. So, now, we are in the year of experimenting, a crucial make or break year as it were. A year that will determine the future of our business.
Successes – there were a few big wins, several new relationships forged and some nice work added to the reel.
A platform is being built, slowly and steadily now whether it’s a strong one remains to be seen.
