Simha has been working as a copywriter and creative director for more than fifteen years. The bulk of his career has been spent in two agencies – Leo Burnett and Draft FCB + Ulka. During these stints he has worked on categories that include automobiles, banking, healthcare, insurance, soaps, shampoos, TV channels, baby products and colas. or a few more. Simha was first introduced to digital advertising when he was with Draft FCB + Ulka. He was in charge of a team of writers, art directors and animators and delivered online campaigns for Tata Motors, Nerolac, Amul, Garnier and TCS. Since the digital division of Draft FCB + Ulka did not have a planner, Simha took it on myself to develop digital strategy for brands he worked on. This exposure to the ‘planning’ side of campaigns helped Simha to understand the role digital should play in an overall adverting plan. This ethos of understating strategy continued at Quasar Media. Although Simha was a creative director, he considered it his responsibility to chalk out strategic routes. He did this after discussing options with the servicing team and then I briefed the copy and the art teams on the route that has been decided. Since Quasar is a purely digital agency, Simha worked in tandem with the mainline partners of our clients to integrate digital communication into the overall advertising plan. The clients he worked with in Quasar include Colgate, P&G, Park Avenue and Eureka Forbes. Simha believes that his knowledge of mainline advertising has given him an edge in the digital space. He has used this advantage to get Quasar shortlisted in several high profile digital pitches including Smirnoff, Kotak Insurance, Siemens and others. Till April 2015, Simha was a creative lead with the Online Marketing division at Iksula, an organization that offers a suite of services to ecommerce companies. My responsibilities at Iksula included working with the Team Leads to deliver lead generation campaigns across digital media. Till April 2016, Simha was the creative director and member of the Senior Leadership Team at Asymmetrique. He developed content strategies for JP Morgan, mainline and digital campaigns for Peninsula constructions and online campaigns for other brands. Experience across advertising verticals:

Mainline:
Simha has done campaigns, for a variety of clients including Coke, Tata Motors, ICICI, Santoor, Wipro Babysoft and others. I have won a couple of awards and have been shortlisted for several others. As a creative director, he has led teams of writers and art directors and delivered effective campaigns in high-pressure pitches and situations. Digital:

Simha has been a creative director with Quasar Media, a stand-alone digital agency. I was responsible for developing a holistic digital communication strategy for clients. He has experience in conceptualizing websites, social media creatives, engagement programs and other digital initiatives. Simha also has experience in developing lead generation campaigns and generating content strategies across brands.

BIG LITTLE LIES.

What it’s about...

At a fundraiser in the picturesque Monterey, California, a person is brutally killed. (We don’t know who it is until the last episode - in stunning twist.) The show then uses flashbacks to reveal the circumstances that led to the slaying. Based on a book that was on the New York Times bestseller list, S1 of Big Little Lies stars Reese Witherspoon, Nicole Kidman, Laura Dern amongst others. Meryl Streep joins in S2.

How is it…

In the first few minutes, we are drawn into the intriguing lives of successful, sassy and impossibly elegant women and one newcomer who gets entangled in their vicious games of one upmanship. The characterisation and plotting are taut, the dialogue is razor-sharp and the acting is accomplished. Highly recommended.

Now, a mixed gender T20 exhibition match is to be played soon.

Wonder what will Kohli say to a female teammate who drops a catch or runs him out?

How will the players celebrate a wicket? With a demure peck on the cheek? (They can hardly rush into each other’s arms with the WAGs watching).

What about dressing rooms? Won’t the female players need private zones? With their own masseuses?

Will the commentators unleash their wit? (The maiden has bowled a maiden to another maiden?)

Going to be an interesting watch...

As a writer and a critic, here are few of my learnings on how to (and how NOT to) promote your book/show/movie on social media.

1) Develop a rep as a curator of good content. And slip in stuff about your work. If the only content you ever share is about your book/movie/show, people will see through you.

2) Share reviews from reputed publications and not ones that have a stake in the success of your book/show/movie.

3) Assume you have made a crime show and a fawning underling puts up a post saying it is better than The Sopranos. Don’t share this post as you will come across as a vain idiot.

4) Don’t tag the whole of Facebook when you are announcing the launch of your book/show/movie. People resent being conscripted into an army of applause monkeys. On no account form FB messenger groups to promote your book/show/movie. It is the fastest way to kill your project.

5) Restrict your posts, just because your posts are free doesn’t mean that you put up half a dozen a day. Also remember, your posts are being seen by the same people who have seen them earlier. If you want to reach targets outside your organic circle, pay and boost.

6) Don’t push it. Six weeks after the release of your opus and you are still promoting it? Uh oh. People are not morons.
