Wedding to Reception Look!
We had an evening wedding as per the preference of the bride and the groom for the golden hour. The golden hour reflected in our beautifully golden lit pictures. As a result we had very little time to change into a whole new outfit for the reception. So here as the mother of the bride, I wanted to be traditional for the wedding ceremony and stylish for the reception look.
Wedding Look - The traditional look, I wore a Rani pink organza saree with gold zardozi work (customised) added a traditional odhna , which a prominent Baraat border of zardozi work with doli, elephants and human figures. Adding the traditional look was my bun with flowers, making me ready as a mother of the bride.

Reception Look: here we just changed the look to be more Reception appropriate and not changed the saree. We did away with the odhna( tradional) look, The same saree was draped with an open palla and the hair was opened up to change the overall look.

Let me know your views on how this transformation from the traditional wedding look to modern look appealed you.

Wedding Look
As a mother of the bride, a lot of thinking and efforts were put in for the look.
Moodboard- As a mother,I wanted to look Elegant and Graceful. It was an occasion of happiness so wanted a traditional look. I personally love colours and this Rani pink has a special place in my heart. Suits well with my personal colour and my personality as a whole.

Decoding the look:
The Baraat Odhna-
Pink Organza Saree - Custom made from Calcutta
MUA
Hairstylist-
Jewellery- including the neck piece, earrings, kaanse, maang tikka, Haath phool - Custom made by our jeweller

Overall for the main wedding ritual the look was thoughtfully kept traditional with a maang tika and a bun, making the look graceful. The baraat odhna signifies the importance of the baraat and doli making it a perfect match for the mother of the bride. The overall look was achieved as thought

As a continuation to the Sangeet / Cocktail looks I have added 3 looks. All these looks have sarees, showing how you can add an element to make the look different from the usual saree look.

Moodboard: Look elegant and add a bit of style to the look. Since it is a cocktail I would like to add a party element.

Look 1 : It was for a destination wedding at Delhi.
A black Chiffon saree with chinkari embroidery and pearl floral border
Element of style : beaded short cape
The black colour adds formality to the occasion, gives a slim look
The cape adds style to the look. It adds interest to your overall look making it a conversation starter too
The make up done ny myself, smokey eyes to add a bit of drama to the look.

Look 2 : The look was for a staycation wedding during Covid times
A House of Masaba Gold Foil designer saree.
A pre-draped saree- easy to wear saree
Black gives a formal and Party look
The Pallu of the saree has colourful hanging at the end, adding interest and colour to the look
The gold Foil Banana tree, a designer print adds interest to the look.
The Party bag adds bling and compliments the party mood and the saree,

Look 3 This look, as discussed in my earlier posts is for my daughter’s sangeet/ Cocktail look
Since it was for my daughter’s function it was a heavier look
The saree was a net saree with sequence and embroidery
The blouse was full with embroidery and sequence
Added a light long cape to add an interesting element to the look
Overall look was stylish, the cape added out of the box element
Overall the weight of the saree was light making it a perfect outfit for dancing the night out.

Decoding the look
Saree - Net saree with sequence and embroidery customised
Blouse - Fully embroidered with sequence customised
Cape - Net cape with embroidery customised.
Jewellery- Necklace & Earrings
Cuff Bracelet- Mihir Mehta

It gives me immense happiness to see that the wedding look I adorned at my daughter’s wedding and what Shaila Merchant wore for the wedding was the similar. It was by the same designer
I had made it in fuschia pink and choose this dupatta by selecting designs from 3 different sarees and got it custom made.
Shaila Merchant - Radhika Merchants mother is wearing in Maroon made by the same designer.
It feels good to know that what I choose for my daughter’s wedding was also appreciated at Anant Radhika’s wedding.

Patola as we know is a silk handwoven saree.
The silk threads are dyed individually and weaved with mathematical calculations for intricate designs on them.
The most common patterns /Motifs are
Navratna
Nari Kunj
Manek Chowk
The most common figures are the elephants, parrots and peacocks.
Recently new figures like Tigers, butterflies and fishes have also been incorporated into the weave.
Traditionally they were available in red, green, yellow, blue and whites, now they are available in a variety of colours like baby pink, lilac etc
There two types of weave Single Ikat and Double Ikat
Single ikat is weaved by one side either warp or weft.it takes around a month for these sarees. Rajkot sarees are mainly single ikat sarees. The designs are not as clear as the double ikat.
Double Ikat weave includes the warp and the weft, thus takes more time. A double Ikat saree takes about 6 months to a year to make a saree. The saree is a bit thicker, designs more clear and intricate. Thus double ikat sarees are far more expensive. They are mainly made in Patan by Salvi families.
The single and Double Ikat are available in sarees, dupattas, lehengas and men’s jackets .
