Traffic Regulation and Diversion Order Issued for Mamring Bridge Repair Works

Namchi, May 26: The Office of the Superintendent of Police, Namchi District, has issued a corrigendum regarding the regulation and diversion of traffic movement over Mamring Bridge in connection with the ongoing rectification and repair works being undertaken by the Roads and Bridges Department.

As per the order issued under Section 159 (2) of the Sikkim Police Act, 2008, restrictions have been imposed to facilitate the bridge deck wearing coat and expansion joint repair works at Mamring.

According to the revised schedule, the bridge will remain closed for all types of light vehicles from 09:00 PM to 06:00 AM and open from 06:00 AM to 09:00 PM daily.

Further, there shall be complete restriction on the movement of heavy vehicles through Mamring Bridge during the repair period. Heavy vehicles have been advised to use alternate routes via Sirwani or Melli Bridge.

However, emergency services including ambulances, fire tenders, and other vehicles engaged in emergency duties will be exempted from the restrictions.

The order shall remain in force from May 26 to June 15, 2026.

President of India Arrives in Gangtok on Three-Day Visit to Sikkim

Gangtok, May 26 (IPR): The President of India, Ms Droupadi Murmu, arrived in Gangtok today on a three day official visit to Sikkim.

The President was accorded a warm reception at the Libing Helipad, by the Governor of Sikkim, Mr Om Prakash Mathur, and the Chief Minister of Sikkim, Mr Prem Singh Tamang-Golay Also present to receive the dignitary were the Speaker of the Sikkim Legislative Assembly, Mr MN Sherpa, Deputy Speaker Ms Raj Kumari Thapa, Ministers of the Government of Sikkim, Member of Parliament (Lok Sabha),Members of Legislative Assembly, Senior civil and police officials including the Chief Secretary, Director General of Police, District Collector (Gangtok), Superintendent of Police (Gangtok), State Protocol Officers, and representatives of the Indian Army.

The President is on a three day Official visit to Sikkim where she will be attending the 7th Convocation of Sikkim University and present President of India’s Police Colour to the Sikkim Police.

This morning, I had the honour of meeting Hon’ble Justice Meenakshi Madan Rai Ji, who is set to assume office as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court.

On behalf of the Government and the people of Sikkim, I extended heartiest congratulations and best wishes on her well-deserved elevation.

As the first lady Judge from Sikkim to attain this distinguished position, her achievement is a historic milestone and a matter of immense pride for the people of Sikkim. Her dedication, integrity, and distinguished service to the judiciary continue to inspire many across the nation.

I wish her a successful and exemplary tenure ahead.

Mangan-Chungthang road temporarily cut off at Meyong Khola due to rise in water level

Mangan, May 23 (IPR): Due to increase in the water level at Meyong Khola, along Mangan-Chungthang route, the road is temporary cut off, and all the vehicles on both sides have been advised to stay in their respective places, till the situation comes to a normal.

District Collector Mangan Mr Anant Jain and SP Mangan Mr LB Chettri visited the spot to assess the situation.

It was decided that the route would be unsafe for travel. Therefore, direction was issued to the concerned check posts to stop movement of vehicles from both Chungthang side as well as Mangan side.

Further decision would be taken once the water level recedes. The district administration is closely monitoring the situation.

||Tithi Bhoj Programme Celebrated at GSSS Nandugaon:

Government Senior Secondary School Nandugaon organised a grand Tithi Bhoj programme hosted by Principal Bishnu Kant Sharma on the occasion of his 31st Marriage Anniversary.

Around 441 people, including students, staff, SMC members, football players, and parents, attended the event. The programme was graced by Chief Guest Suren Chettri along with other distinguished guests and Panchayat representatives.

Friendly football matches and a special community feast added enthusiasm to the celebration, which concluded successfully in a joyful atmosphere.
