The end of the financial year, March, is a month that can stress one to death, nearly. I have, over the years, started dreading the month and loathing clients who turn up late like sadists. For no fault of ours, the client tends to dump its indecisive s**t on the agency and the designers at the very last moment, when the budgets are to lapse, fulfillment reports have to be submitted and they have to show off their achievements and earn brownies from their bosses. It is hell chasing to honour commitments, expecting your team to deliver to impossible deadlines, following up on the print-production jobs, keeping an eye on the expiring PO dates and also maintaining quality control. The cup of coffee lies there waiting for attention and gets cold before you can even take it to your lips. The head spins, the fingers tremble and zombie over the keyboard, one looks at the ringing phone like the house is on fire. With an aching back, scratchy throat, and drooping eyes all that comes out are polite half-curses and the hope that the silver will roll home in time for you to hit hills. Why the f*** such lovely jobs can't come in ahead of time and be completed without agony. The rant is not for these jobs/clients. Mercy, the God of War, 11 days still to go for March.
