Haryana launches Rs. 2,100cr metro project - Oct 8, 2012
Shortly after completing the rapid metro phase first trials, the Haryana government has launched its second phase with a length of 7km and involving an investment of Rs. 2,100cr. The second phase of the ambitious rail network connecting densely populated residential localities like Kendriya Vihar, Jalvayu Vihar including sectors 55 and 56 and is likely to be completed by July 2015 at an estimated cost of Rs 2,100cr, Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda said adding that another proposal is to expand Rapid Metro services to old city across the Delhi-Gurgaon Expressway catering to thousands commuters working in Udyog Vihar as the network will be integrated with the DMRC's upcoming Airport Express link near Maruti Suzuki factory.
It is worth mentioning here that the state launched the second phase of the project after the chief minister flagged off the trial run on the 5.1km rapid metro network built under the phase first of the project connecting Sikandarpur Metro station of DMRC with Cyber City, business district of Gurgaon. Once it becomes operational in March next year, about one lakh commuters will use the network everyday. The fare structure and timings of Rapid Metro will be similar to the Delhi Metro and commuters will be able to travel by using their DMRC smart cards and tokens. In addition to this, the detailed project report of DMRC's Airport Express connecting IFFCO Chowk with Dwarka Sector-21 will be approved very shortly thereby emphasizing the need of a multi-modal mobility plan for Gurgaon, he added.
