Ambition Gave Me Success. But It Also Taught Me an Important Lesson.
In my 30s, I was driven by one goal—to grow.
I was ambitious, hungry to learn, and determined to succeed. Promotions came on the fast track, incentives kept increasing, and every achievement motivated me to aim even higher.
From the outside, it looked like the perfect career journey.
But behind the success, I was ignoring something that mattered the most—my health.
Long working hours, constant travel, meeting targets, and the pressure to perform became my normal. I rarely paused to ask myself, “How am I doing?”
Then one day, I was diagnosed with hypertension.
It was a wake-up call.
I realized that while I had invested so much in building my career, I had invested very little in taking care of the person who was building it.
That experience changed my perspective on success.
Today, I still believe in ambition. I still believe in working hard and striving for excellence. But I also believe that success should never come at the cost of our physical and mental well-being.
No promotion is worth losing your health.
No incentive can replace peace of mind.
And no career milestone is meaningful if you don’t have the health to enjoy it.
To every ambitious professional—especially women who often juggle multiple responsibilities—remember this:
Your health is not a distraction from your career. It is the foundation of your career.
Take that health check-up.
Get enough sleep.
Exercise regularly.
Eat well.
And don’t ignore the signals your body is giving you.
Looking back, I don’t regret being ambitious. I only wish I had been equally ambitious about taking care of my health.
