Shopian 28 April 2026: Rescue operations in Dubjan area of Shopian have entered their third consecutive day, with teams continuing their relentless search efforts. The mission remains ongoing as authorities and local volunteers work tirelessly to locate the missing individual.

Adding strength to the operation, a brave युवक, Hamza from Doda, has also arrived at the site to support the rescue teams. His participation reflects the spirit of unity and courage, as people from different regions come forward to assist in the critical mission.

Officials stated that despite challenging conditions, the teams are determined to continue the search until the operation reaches a conclusion.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN CONCLUDES 03 DAYS SPECIALIZED TRAINING COURSE FOR INVESTIGATING OFFICERS

April 23: In a continued effort to strengthen professional competence and investigative excellence, Shopian Police successfully concluded a three-day specialized training course for Investigating Officers IOs at the District Training Centre, DPL Shopian.

The programme was designed to enhance the practical and legal skills of Investigating Officers from various police establishments of the district, with a focused approach on improving the quality, accuracy and effectiveness of criminal investigations. The primary objective of the training was to equip officers with in-depth knowledge and hands-on expertise in writing case diaries, maintaining proper documentation, ensuring preservation of the chain of custody and drafting legally sound charge sheets. Special sessions were also conducted on the investigation of cases involving collective violence, public order offences and other complex law-and-order situations.

During the course, subject experts emphasized the importance of meticulous record-keeping, adherence to procedural safeguards and maintaining transparency throughout the investigation process. Officers were trained on best practices to ensure that evidence is properly handled and documented, thereby strengthening the prosecution’s case and improving conviction rates.

This initiative reflects the commitment of Shopian Police towards capacity building of its personnel and enhancing the overall efficiency of the criminal justice system in the district.

J&K POLICE IN SHOPIAN ATTACH RESIDENTIAL HOUSE ACQUIRED THROUGH PROCEEDS OF DRUG TRAFFICKING

April 22: As part of its continued crackdown on narcotics-related activities, Shopian Police have attached a double-story residential house falling in the Khasra No. 58 and valued at ₹3165577/- belonging to Mohd Yousuf Bhat resident of Vishroo Payeen Keller. The property was identified as having been acquired through proceeds generated from the illegal trade of drugs and narcotics. Accordingly, the said property has been attached in connection with FIR No. 03/2026 of Police Station Keller.

The attachment proceedings were carried out in the presence of duly constituted police team, Executive Magistrate, Lambardar and Chowkidar, ensuring full compliance with all legal procedures and maintaining transparency.

Shopian Police reiterates its firm commitment to eradicating the menace of drugs by targeting both offenders and the financial assets generated through illicit activities. The general public is urged to come forward with any information regarding drug trafficking or related activities.

Tragedy a Week After Engagement: Two Brothers Drown in Jhelum River in Bijbehara.

Anantnag, April 13: Two brothers drowned after accidentally slipping into the Jhelum River in the Padshahibagh area of Bijbehara in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.

They said the deceased have been identified as Majid Ahmad Malik and Shahid Ahmad Malik, residents of Jabalipora.

According to reports, the brothers were washing sheep near the riverbank when they lost balance and fell into the river, after which they went missing.

The tragic incident has cast a pall of gloom over the area, especially as Majid Ahmad Malik had gotten engaged just a week earlier, making the loss even more devastating for the grieving family and relatives.

Soon after the incident, a police team from Bijbehara, along with local residents, launched a massive rescue operation. Later, during the search, the bodies of both missing brothers were retrieved.

A 100-day campaign under the “Nasha Mukt Abhiyan” was formally launched in Shopian district. Deputy Commissioner Shopian, SSP Shopian, MLA Zainapora, and other officials were present on the occasion.
Various sports activities were organized during the program, in which students actively participated. Painting competitions were also held. The aim of these activities is to keep youth away from drugs and promote a healthy and positive environment.
