A true incident of ‘Blowing My Own Horn...

Scene of one of my initial sales meetings...

The CEO knew my boss so he happily let me in.

At the top, he invited 5 of his teammates.

I opened my pitch deck…

And you know what...

I started regurgitating facts after facts.

Here's what I told until I learned not to.

We’re a 15-year-old firm serving ABC brands – prospect thinks - tell me how you can solve my (gripping) problems?

We have a world-class product – prospect thinks- again an empty statement we are not here to make an art gallery.

We have excellent customer service – prospect thinks- everyone even people with horrible services claim this.

We have been covered in several publications – prospect thinks - Paid publicity? How will that help me?

We offer the best price – prospect thinks- I am not here for the cheapest prices but for a better solution.

Now the sad truth is most sales professionals use the same approach in their cold or Intro EMAILS.

Result - Zero response.

I’ve to negotiate hard on pricing…… I sell audio-visual appliances and my competitors sell the same products and brands.

How do I differentiate from the ugly competition and protect my pricing, asked a client of mine?

We carefully explored and dissected - what makes him different- why customers bought from him in past, cases where he has beaten his competition and how, how can he deliver a better experience and unique advantages that cost zero to little but have tremendous value to the client.

What is the biggest gap that you can fill for your target audience?

I made tons of notes.

And then distilled and condensed it into a 6 pointer USP - on Why Should A Customer Do Business With You Than With Your Competition.

Result; An immediate increase in sales conversion ( nearly 2x... I still need to get exact data) plus customers pay more to get these extra unique benefits.

You see there's a goldmine of info hidden deep in your products, process, services, clients, and market - dig deep you can immediately out-pull, outsmart your competition.
