We all wish certain fictions were more than that; perhaps, a dream just waiting to come true, but this isn’t that sort of story. Well, here goes. I tend to have an awesome cheat day after my endless routine of dieting and working out. Sunday is my one day to relax (perhaps with football or a short workout) and hog away with the food I used to dream of during the week.
From boiled eggs to, well, usually I sleep in but mostly scrambled eggs with jam! I still have to keep my protein levels high. This day took a different turn, though. I got an early morning call (9:00 AM) for a football tournament while I had the day set for hogging & resting. Well, I did the obvious – I packed my bag, all set to win after altering all my plans. I had to skip breakfast since I was late.
Time flew by with all the matches we played and won. Yes, my stomach rumbled away, but we couldn’t catch a break. There were no places to eat nearby, so we needed to finish the league stage before getting some time to relax. The games went on; the rumbling grew louder, but finally, we got our break. Time really flew because it was quite late already. We went in search of places to eat (quite the Indiana Jones quest, only we had ). Eventually, we found a place. The thoughts of burgers, fries, etc. kept me going, but this was a South Indian joint. I just couldn’t catch a break!
Something is always better than nothing, so we finished eating by evening and went back to the ground. We lazed around for a bit until the qualifiers. We won most of them but lost in semis. A real devastating experience whenever it happens. All your effort until then seems wasted, you feel empty inside, just wishing you could have done more even when you do all you could.
We discussed our drawbacks with frustration and left the ground after an hour. I contemplated the game all the way home about what could I have done extra. It just wasn’t my day, especially with the botched cheat day. I reach home to find mom had dinner ready, which meant I couldn’t order something from out because we don’t waste food being proud Parsis (renowned for a huge appetite for food & abuses). So, yeah, I ate sabji for dinner but with pickle - at least got that much. My fictional food fantasies came crashing down as I went to crash. I hope my cheat day in the next 10-15 days is a better one.
