Nepal Floods 2026: How the Nepal Flood Happened
The truth behind the catastrophic flash flood along the Nepal-China border. 🚨
On August 26, 2026, a sudden flash flood surged downstream from the Himalayas, engulfing the Trishuli River basin and devastating key infrastructure near Gyirong Port.
Using 3D satellite mapping, we traced the exact path of the disaster step-by-step:
1) The Border Checkpoint: The floodwaters hit Gyirong Port along the Trishuli River, completely washing out border facilities and vehicle parking lots.
2) The Source (15km Upstream): Tracing the river upstream past the peak of Langtang Lirung reveals a massive glacier over 2 km wide.
3) The Trigger Mechanism: Heavy water saturation severely weakened the mountain structure beneath the ice, unleashing millions of tons of mud, debris, and meltwater downstream.
4) The Aftermath: Over 100 km of river basin suffered destruction, tearing down steel bridges and homes in its path.
Glaciers are not static. Understanding these high-altitude natural hazards is critical for future disaster prevention.
