A single treatment showed promising effects against depression—and researchers are encouraged by the results. 🧠

Scientists at Sweden's Karolinska Institutet studied 35 people with recurrent depression, giving participants either a dose of psilocybin or a placebo. Within two days, many in the psilocybin group reported noticeable improvements. After six weeks, more than half no longer met the criteria for depression, while very few in the placebo group experienced similar results. According to findings published in JAMA Network Open, many of these benefits continued for more than three months.

The findings are significant because many people with depression do not get adequate relief from conventional antidepressants. While larger studies are still needed, this research suggests psilocybin-assisted treatment could become a promising option for individuals with difficult-to-treat depression.
