Supreme Court Collegium Recommends Yash Paul Bourney for Appointment as J&K and Ladakh High Court Judge

The Supreme Court Collegium has recommended the appointment of Yash Paul Bourney, a Judicial Officer, as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
The recommendation was approved at the meeting of the Supreme Court Collegium held on September 10, 2026. In its resolution, the Collegium approved the proposal for Bourney’s appointment as a Judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Bourney is a senior member of the J&K Higher Judicial Service and is presently serving as a Member of the J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu, on deputation. According to official High Court records, he belongs to the District and Sessions Judge cadre in the Super Time Scale.
His name had earlier been considered by the High Court Collegium among judicial officers and advocates recommended for elevation to the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh. He was recommended under the judicial officers’ quota along with a number of advocates.
Bourney joined the J&K judicial service in December 1997 and was inducted into the District Judge cadre in 2011. During his judicial career, he has held several important assignments in the subordinate judiciary and judicial administration.
He also served as Principal District and Sessions Judge, Jammu, before being transferred in November 2025 to the J&K Special Tribunal, Jammu, on deputation.
The recommendation of the Supreme Court Collegium will now proceed through the prescribed appointment process.
