Pulwama Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Contraband Recovered

Pulwama Police achieved another success in its ongoing drive against drug trafficking by apprehending a drug peddler during naka checking at Lassipora.

A police party of Police Station Litter laid a naka near Block Office Lassipora and intercepted a motorcyclist travelling from SIDCO Lassipora towards Lassipora Chowk for checking. The motorcycle bearing registration number JK22C-1351 was subjected to search during which approximately 204 grams of charas sticks-like substance was recovered from his possession.

Accordingly, FIR No. 57/26 under relevant sections of law has been registered at Police Station Litter and further investigation has been taken up.

Pulwama Police remains committed towards eradicating the menace of drugs from society and appeals to the general public to cooperate with police by sharing any information related to drug peddling or other unlawful activities.

Police Seize Vehicles Involved in Illegal Mining Activities in Khrew

Continuing its action against illegal mining activities, Police Station Khrew seized two tippers during patrolling and checking at Mandakpal Khrew . The vehicles were found involved in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.

Accordingly, a case FIR No 41/2026 under relevant sections of law have been registered at Police Station Khrew and further investigation has been taken up.

MVD Pulwama Conducts Safety Audit of School Transport and Enforcement Drive

Acting on the specific directives of the Worthy Secretary Transport and Transport Commissioner of Jammu and Kashmir, the Enforcement Squad of the Assistant Regional Transport Office (ARTO) Pulwama, the other day, carried out safety audit and inspection at Birla Open Minds International School in Pampore. The initiative was aimed to ensure the highest standards of safety for students commuting via school transport across the district.

During the exercise, officials physically inspected a fleet of 74 school vehicles to verify the functional installation of mandatory safety equipment, including CCTV cameras, Vehicle Location Tracking Devices (VLTD), Speed Limiting Devices (SLD), and emergency panic buttons. In addition to technical inspections, the team conducted a meticulous review of all vehicle documentation and driver licenses. The audit concluded that the school’s transport fleet is currently operating in full compliance with the prescribed norms of the Motor Vehicle Rules, with all documentation found to be up to date.

During the visit, officials imparted essential road safety awareness to school bus drivers and conductors. The session emphasized the fundamental importance of safe driving practices and strict adherence to traffic regulations to safeguard the lives of school children.

Highlighting a commitment to civic responsibility, all participating drivers and officials took a formal Road Safety Pledge. Furthermore, as part of the Nasha Mukti Bharat Abhiyaan, transport staff were educated on the grave dangers of drug addiction and the necessity of maintaining a drug-free environment within the transport sector.

The Enforcement Squad laid nakas on various routes at Awantipora and Pampore to curb general traffic violations. During this intensified enforcement drive, more than 120 vehicles were intercepted and checked. The operation resulted in the issuance of e-challans to 31 vehicles for various offenses under the Motor Vehicle Act, with the total expected fine realization amounting to Rs 68,800. These measures underscore the department's ongoing commitment to enhancing road discipline and ensuring public safety throughout the region.

Motor Vehicle Inspectors Rahil Anjum and Ashutosh Raina along with other officials of MVD Pulwama carried the drive.

Pulwama Police Cracks Theft Case; Stolen Water Motors and Equipment Recovered

Pulwama Police achieved a major breakthrough in the investigation of case FIR No. 21/2026 registered under sections 305, 331(4) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) at Police Station Pulwama by recovering stolen water motors and other equipment besides apprehending a suspect involved in the commission of the crime.

During the course of investigation, one suspect identified as Muzaffar Ahmad Dar S/o Gh Mohammad Dar R/o KP Payeen Hanjiwera, A/P Rashipora Hanjiwera Pattan was brought for sustained questioning. During interrogation, the suspect confessed to his involvement in the case.

Acting promptly on his disclosure, Pulwama Police recovered 04 stolen water motors, 01 pump and approximately 100 metres of spray pipe. Further investigation in the case is underway and more recoveries are expected.

The successful recovery highlights the prompt action and sustained efforts of Pulwama Police in curbing criminal activities and safeguarding public property.

Pulwama Police Arrests Drug Peddler; Contraband Recovered; FIR Registered

Pulwama Police achieved a major success against drug trafficking by apprehending a drug peddler during naka checking at Frasipora Link Road. During the naka checking conducted by Police Station Pulwama, one suspicious person was intercepted and upon his search, officers recovered approximately 5.900 kilograms of poppy straw-like substance concealed in a nylon bag from his possession. The accused has been identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Rather S/o Gh Rasool Rather R/o Frasipora.

In this regard, a case FIR No. 82/2026 under sections 8/15 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Pulwama and investigation has been taken up.

SRINAGAR, 10th MAY, 2026: Lieutenant Governor Shri Manoj Sinha on Sunday handed over Appointment Letters to the newly recruited Constables of Jammu Kashmir Police during a landmark presentation ceremony at the Armed Police Complex, Zewan.
Around 4000 recruits were selected through a transparent, merit-based process conducted by J&K Service Selection Board.
The Lieutenant Governor extended his heartiest congratulations to the new recruits and exhorted them to discharge their duties with absolute integrity, impartiality and unwavering commitment to national service.
"Joining the Jammu Kashmir Police is not merely a career choice but the acceptance of a legacy written in blood. I am confident that you will rise to the occasion and uphold the honor of this glorious force," he said.
Paying tribute to J&K Police's bravehearts, the Lieutenant Governor stated that the peace and progress enjoyed by the citizens of J&K are the results of the unwavering resolve and sacrifices made by brave police personnel.
"The Jammu & Kashmir Police stands as a testament to selfless service, duty, sacrifice and public trust. It is recognized as the benchmark of excellence in upholding the rule of law and executing counter-terrorism operations," he said.
The Lieutenant Governor also spoke on the shifting landscape of internal security and called for the increased integration of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in policing operations. He urged the J&K Police to prepare a roadmap to make the force future ready.
The Lieutenant Governor emphasized that the battlefield has expanded beyond physical borders. He warned that modern threats such as cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare are increasingly being driven by technology rather than traditional weaponry.
The Lieutenant Governor reiterated that the complete eradication of all forms of terrorism and ensuring the safety of the public is our top priority.
“Today, the world’s most dangerous criminals and terrorists do not always carry weapons; instead, they exploit code, data and encrypted networks to operate across borders. Cybercrime, narco-terrorism, digital fraud and narrative warfare are no longer threats of the distant future; they are the stark realities of the present. They are claiming lives, destroying livelihoods and eroding the trust upon which the stability of every system ultimately rests,” the Lieutenant Governor said.
He also urged the recruits across all wings of J&K Police to leverage robust digital infrastructure to combat these threats.

Massive Public Participation Marks Intensified Anti-Drug Campaign Across Pulwama

Continuing its intensified crackdown and awareness initiatives under the ongoing 100 Days Nasha Mukt Jammu and Kashmir Abhiyan (NMJKA), J&K Police Pulwama organised a series of anti-drug activities across the district including awareness rallies, public outreach drives, search operations and vehicle checking programmes aimed at curbing the menace of drug abuse and trafficking.

As part of the campaign, a massive anti-drug awareness rally was organised at Litter in collaboration with the District Administration. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from local residents, students, youth, volunteers and members of civil society who collectively raised slogans against drug abuse and pledged their support for building a healthy and drug-free society.

Participants carrying placards and banners highlighted the harmful consequences of narcotics on individuals, families and society. The rally also focused on spreading awareness regarding the importance of community participation in eliminating drug abuse and protecting the younger generation from falling prey to addiction.

Meanwhile, Women Police Station Pulwama conducted a public awareness drive under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan. During the programme, police officials sensitized drivers and passengers by stopping vehicles outside the police station and educating them about the dangerous effects of substance abuse. The participants were informed about the growing threat posed by narcotics and were urged to actively cooperate with law enforcement agencies in identifying and reporting drug-related activities.

In another significant action, Police Station Rajpora carried out an intensive search operation in the houses of suspected drug peddlers in Rajpora area. Simultaneously, extensive vehicle checking was also conducted to monitor suspicious movement and strengthen preventive measures against drug trafficking and related criminal activities.

Police officials reiterated that the anti-drug campaign will continue with full momentum across the district through awareness programmes, enforcement drives, community outreach initiatives and preventive actions. They appealed to parents, teachers, religious scholars, youth and civil society members to remain vigilant and play an active role in safeguarding society from the growing menace of drugs.

J&K Police Pulwama reaffirmed its commitment towards ensuring a safer and drug-free environment and emphasized that collective public support remains essential in achieving the objective of a “Nasha Mukt Pulwama.
