CBI Arrests CGST Superintendent, Consultant in ₹1 Crore Bribery Case

Navi Mumbai, September 12:(KNC)The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Superintendent of the Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) and Central Excise, Raigad Commissionerate, along with a CGST consultant, in connection with an alleged bribery case involving a redevelopment project at New Panvel.

According to the CBI, the case was registered on September 9, 2026, following a complaint by the Project Head of a private realty company involved in the redevelopment of two buildings in Sector 17, New Panvel.

The company had reportedly secured the necessary approvals from the local authority for the redevelopment project. As per the complaint, 24 flats in the buildings were owned by the CGST and Central Excise, Raigad Commissionerate, for which a No Objection Certificate (NOC) and handing over of the flats were required.

The CBI alleged that the accused CGST Superintendent had demanded ₹1 crore in exchange for the NOC and handing over of the flats for redevelopment.

During verification of the complaint on September 10, the accused officer allegedly demanded ₹10 lakh in cash, besides ₹20 lakh as down payment for a flat purchased by the public servant and another ₹70 lakh at a later stage allegedly for other officers of DG HRD, CGST, New Delhi.

The CBI subsequently laid a trap on September 10. During the operation, the accused Superintendent allegedly directed the complainant to hand over ₹10 lakh as undue advantage to a CGST consultant who was present at the location.

Both accused persons were arrested on September 10 and produced before the competent court on September 11. The court has granted two days of police custody of both accused.

The CBI said that further investigation in the case is underway.(KNC)

Three Family Members Injured in Qazigund Road Accident

Qazigund, Sep 10 (KNC): Three members of a family were injured after a battery-operated auto-rickshaw collided with an Alto car bearing registration number JK01N-0919 in Qazigund area of south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.

The injured have been identified as Ghulam Mohideen Wani (65), his wife Shameema (50), and their son Asif Hussain Wani (28), all residents of Pooli, Verinag.

Following the accident, the injured were shifted to the Emergency Hospital Qazigund. They were subsequently referred to Government Medical College (GMC), Anantnag, for further treatment.

Police have taken cognizance of the incident and initiated proceedings. (KNC)

Man dies after falling from walnut tree in Kulgam

Kulgam, Sep 10: A 46-year-old man died after falling from a walnut tree while plucking walnuts in the Jaibal Lammer area of Kulgam district, officials said.

An official told the news agency Kashmir News Observer, that the man sustained serious injuries in the fall and was shifted to a hospital for treatment, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The deceased was identified as Mukhtar Ahmad Najar (46), son of Ghulam Nabi Najar, a resident of Jaibal Lammer.

Meanwhile, an inquiry has been initiated and an investigation has been taken up.—(KNO)

J&K ACB arrested Ab. Hamid Khan tout of Saleem Altaf, Patwari Halqa Batmaloo, Srinagar for accepting bribe for issuance of revenue extract

Anti-Corruption Bureau received a written complaint alleging that Saleem Altaf, Patwari, Halqa Batamaloo, Srinagar, through his associate Ab. Hamid Khan, a land broker/tout, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for issuance of revenue extracts pertaining to his house.

The complainant had applied online for the revenue extracts on behalf of his father for the purpose of attestation of mutation. It was alleged that the Patwari, through his associate Ab. Hamid Khan, initially demanded ₹20,000, which was subsequently settled at ₹16,000.

The complainant further alleged that the said tout had already compelled him to pay the first instalment of ₹5,000 on behalf of the accused patwari, while a second instalment of Rs 11,000 was demanded (on behalf of the accused patwari) today for issuance of the revenue extracts

On receipt of the complaint, the allegations were verified and accordingly FIR No. 13/2026 under Section 7,7A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988 and Section 61(2) BNS was registered at P/S ACB Srinagar, and investigation taken up.

During the course of investigation,a trap team was constituted by ACB Srinagar. During the trap proceedings, Ab. Hamid Khan was caught red-handed while demanding and accepting ₹11,000 as illegal gratification on behalf of the Patwari, Saleem Altaf.

The accused tout was taken into custody.

During his personal search, in addition to the trap amount of ₹11,000, cash amounting to ₹25,125, payment slips, the revenue extract in question, and a sale deed pertaining to Mohammad Sidiq Sheikh S/o Gh. Mohammad Sheikh were recovered from his possession. The recovered articles have been taken into possession as per procedure and are being examined as part of the investigation.

The involvement of Patwari Saleem Altaf in the demand and acceptance of illegal gratification through the tout Ab. Hamid Khan is being ascertained.

The investigation of case is going on.

ACB arrests land broker for accepting Rs 11,000 bribe in Srinagar

Srinagar, Sept 07 (KNO): The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) on Monday arrested a land broker for allegedly accepting Rs 11,000 bribe on behalf of a Patwari for issuance of revenue extracts in the Batmaloo area of Srinagar.

In a statement issued to the news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), a spokesperson said the ACB received a written complaint alleging that Saleem Altaf, Patwari, Halqa Batmaloo, Srinagar, through his associate Ab. Hamid Khan, a land broker/tout, had demanded illegal gratification from the complainant for issuance of revenue extracts pertaining to his house.

He said the complainant had applied online for the revenue extracts on behalf of his father for the purpose of attestation of mutation. It was alleged that the Patwari, through his associate Ab. Hamid Khan, initially demanded Rs 20,000, which was subsequently settled at Rs 16,000.

SKIMS Bemina interns begin hunger strike over stipend demand, seek written government order

Srinagar, Sep 7:

Intern doctors of MBBS Batch 2021 at SKIMS Medical College, Bemina, have begun a hunger strike from Monday, intensifying their ongoing protest over the demand for revision of their internship stipend and insisting on a formal written order from the administration.

In an announcement issued by the protesting interns, the MBBS 2021 batch said the decision followed the continued failure of dialogue with the administration to culminate in a written and formal order addressing their demands.

The interns said repeated discussions and assurances had failed to result in an official order regarding revision of the internship stipend, prompting them to escalate the protest.

“Our stand is clear: No Written Order — No End to the Protest,” the interns said, announcing that the hunger strike would continue until a formal order addressing their demands is issued and the process is expedited.

The protesting interns said their demand was linked to what they described as justice, dignity and fair compensation for the work and responsibilities undertaken by intern doctors.

They appealed to the administration and concerned authorities to take immediate cognisance of the issue and resolve the impasse through a written and official order.

The hunger strike marks a further escalation in the wider agitation by MBBS and BDS interns in Jammu and Kashmir over their demand for enhancement of the monthly internship stipend to ₹30,000.

The interns have maintained that verbal assurances are no longer sufficient and that the agitation will continue until the government issues a formal order.

“We seek dialogue. We seek justice. We seek a written order,” the interns said.

The protesting SKIMS Bemina interns have reiterated that the hunger strike is intended to press for an early resolution rather than to end the process of dialogue, while making clear that they will not withdraw the protest merely on the basis of further assurances. [KNT]
