Juice is annoying to photograph. Light it from the front and it turns brown and flat, like it has been sitting out since morning. So the light goes behind it instead and the pulp lifts. The orange slice earns its place too. Your eye wants a colour it already knows.

Simpler than it looks. There is a board with a hole cut in it and someone lying underneath, pushing the sachet up through the gap. Getting the hand to look relaxed instead of stiff takes a fair few goes. You could fake it on a computer, but the shadow never sits right.

Getting them to stand upright is the annoying bit. It softens while you are still adjusting it. Flat on its back a bar is just a listing photo though.

Mostly you wouldn't realise this, but a lit flame is about a thousand times brighter than the wax around it. Expose for the flame and the candle goes black. Expose for the candle and the flame blows out completely. Solving that is the actual job.

The hardest part of this shoot was finishing the pistachios afterwards. If I remember correctly we ordered around 2.5kg, then realised halfway through that we needed maybe half of that. Still, the shot came out beautiful and the client loved it.
