âyouâll never make sales just because you love your product.
Before you get defensive, hear me out. The reason youâre struggling to sell isnât because your product is bad. Itâs because youâre too close to it. You know every feature, every detail, and every benefit, but that closeness makes it hard to see things from your customerâs perspective.
Ironically, the person who builds the product is often the worst person to sell it. The best salesperson isnât the one who knows the product inside outâitâs the one who understands the audience inside out.
People donât buy because your product is amazing. They buy because they believe it will solve their problem, help them achieve a goal, or make their life better. Your audience is the hero of the story. Your product is simply the tool that helps the hero win.
I hear this objection all the time: âWe need someone from our industry to market our product.â But if both of you are deeply immersed in the same industry, you can end up speaking the same insider language, obsessing over features, and forgetting what truly matters to the customer.
Selling isnât about proving how much you know about your product. Itâs about understanding your audienceâtheir struggles, desires, fears, and motivations. When you stop talking about your product and start talking about your customerâs transformation, sales become much easier.
Detach emotionally from your product. Get closer to your audience. Because the businesses that win arenât the ones that love their product the mostâtheyâre the ones that understand their customers the best.
