Quietly from my hostel room in Ahmedabad, I used to see the headlines about thousands of tech professionals losing their jobs at MNCs because of AI.
My dad has been running an IT company in Vadodara for 20 years now.
And I thought how a 20-30 employee business like ours manages to survive the storm.
So I asked my dad about it.
He said, “Of course AI has affected us and changed a lot of things.
But it’s not as simple as it seems.”
Here’s what he explained to me:
-Some clients just want a database that works or a website that can be maintained.
-Not every client knows how to build a website with AI from scratch. They just want a service provider they can call when their website goes down.
-And in terms of our own employees, adapting to AI isn’t as easy as it looks. A lot of developers spent all their youth learning to code, their brain isn’t naturally wired to use AI like students.
Don’t get me wrong, what we do can be done better or faster by AI.
But all I’m saying is, change takes time.

When I look around the office, I still see people picking up client calls, laughing over tea and carrying on with their day.
I honestly don’t know what the future holds for a small IT business like ours, I’m just a third year undergrad.
But asking my dad that question taught me that,
the headlines make you think the world changes overnight,
but the ground reality takes its time.
And for now… it’s keeping the lights on.
