Nashamukti Kendra Manipur The web of alcoholism and drug abuse has been a great menace to Manipur society creating lots of social problems.

People addicted to drugs and alcohol affects a peace, tranquility and happiness of any family. In fact, they are considered as burden and menace to families as the former create problems in the family. Women and children no doubt are the main victim of alcoholism and drug abuse. a, Bhang, brown sugar etc. A craving to obtain peace, to get rid of depression, to escape worldly sorrows and failures and to get a euphoric feeling or to get rid of social inhibitions leads people to the use drugs. Chronic use of these drugs leads to severe damage to the liver, heart, kidneys, brain and the nerves. To fight the menace of drug and alcohol addiction in society, Nashamukti Kendra, Yairipok is relentlessly rendering its service in providing treatment to the persons addicted to drug and alcohol by rehabilitatingthem to normal lives. Established in Manipur as a branch of Starway Enterprises, Mumbai, amulti national marketing Company working for the last 20 years on 2nd February, 2013, Nashamukti Kendra works in the field of providing treatment to people addicted to drugs and alchohol. Under a systematic treatment, the centre provides treatment and helps in rehabilitating the peopleaddicted to tablet, G***a, dendrite and codeine and alcohol,etc by bringing them back to normal life. The centre has been successful to give a new life to round about 180 drug addicts and 120 alcohol addicts in Manipur making them leave drugs like SP Tablet, Dendrite, Codeine and alcoholism. At present, many drug and Alcohol addicts are undergoing treatment under the centre. The centre offers its service in two type of treatment - Home Treatment and Centre Treatment under the supervision of Dr. Nizamuddin Komol and his son Aamar Komol at Yairipok. The treatment cm rehabilitation centre has been a point of attraction for many people as of now following its successful venture on bringing back many addicts to normaly.

Manipur has largest to***co users in north east

Under the theme 'Stop illicit trade of to***co products' World No To***co Day was observed at Indian Medical Association (IMA) Hall, Lamphelpat on Sunday with awareness rally and calls to give up habit of to***co consumption marking the observance.

Aimed at drawing attention of public to the widespread use of to***co items and its impact on health, a rally participated by people from sections of society and students was flagged off by state nodal officer of National To***co Control Programme Dr K Komolini from the premises of Medical Directorate. The rally culminated at IMA complex where the main observance function was held.

As chief guest, family welfare director Dr K Rajo highlighted that consumption of to***co items is highest among middle-age group of people.

In north east region, Manipur has largest number of to***co consumers, said the director who stressed the need for an effective policy to check health risks associated with to***co use.

Cautioning that women who use to***co items are exposed to various health problems, he pointed out that besides complications during child delivery consumption of to***co affects health of the new born baby. Referring to reports about smoking a cigarette decreasing life span of a person by seven minutes, he said 28 % of to***co products are made of substances which can lead to formation of cancer diseases.

Noting that though to***co products are not manufactured in the state, the rate of consumption is among the highest, Dr Rajo stressed the need for collective effort to end illicit trade of to***co products in the state.

IMA Manipur State Branch vice president Dr Th Bhimo, attending the event as functional president, said to***co consumption claims nearly 6 million people every year throughout the world.

Along with intensifying awareness programme to curb illicit trade in to***co products, every individual need to take the initiative of preventing use of to***co items right in their own homes.

The observance function was organized by Indian Medical Association (IMA), Manipur State branch in collaboration with Medical Directorate, National Health Mission, National To***co Control Programme, Voice of To***co Victim, and Coalition Against Drugs and Alcohol (CADA).
