Skaftfell: The Origin Story 1996–2008, by Tinna Guðmundsdóttir , explores the early history of Skaftfell art center in Seyðisfjörður from 1995–2008. Founded in 1998, Skaftfell grew from grassroots volunteer efforts into a leading independent contemporary art center in Iceland, also hosting a guest studio and the Skaftfell Bistro.

The book traces its founding years, early exhibitions, and key collaborations, highlighting how community effort, artistic ambition, and perseverance shaped a lasting cultural institution in rural Iceland. It also includes interviews with key figures involved in its development.

● Hörður at

Hörður Ágústsson (1922–2005) has often been described as a renaissance man of Icelandic visual art.
His contribution to art, design, and architecture is undeniable, with a career spanning more than half a century. During that time, he produced a substantial body of work as an artist and designer, and also worked as a teacher, critic, and scholar in the field of visual education. He was a pioneer in research into the history of Icelandic architecture.

Hörður was one of the founders of the cultural journal VAKI and later Birtingur, and a keen advocate for active debate. Birtingur played a key role in the introduction of modernism in Icelandic literature and visual art in the 1950s and 60s; its founders were outspoken in challenging the status quo.

Hörður had a significant influence on the development of geometric abstract art in Iceland, as well as on graphic design. His approach to book covers, layouts, logos, advertisements, brochures, and leaflets exemplifies the breadth and coherence of his oeuvre.

The exhibition focuses on Hörður’s abstract geometric works and their relationship to his design practice and artistic thinking. It explores how his formal approach extends across art forms, from visual production to his conceptual world and writings on art.
