As we have bought our domain we want to put something into it, we want to use it to host our ebook and to release updates on our publishing activity. For this the open source software wordpress, that you can get at https://wordpress.org, is good enough, i know it's a little technical ( far less than building your website by yourself ) but i'm sure a good friend that is good with computers will really help. The biggest difficulty is not setting up a domain but generating traffic. You can get traffic for free or by paying for it, they are both good, i'll tell you more in the next post...

Ok at this point we have submitted our ebook to some ebook directories, we have submitted it to get some reviews but the more we share it the more are we known. It is essential to have a page for our ebook ( if we want to reach a bigger audience, aren't we ? ), if we are a business then we could upload it to our website and made it reachable through a link but if we are an author then we should have our personal website. We can have a website for free but with few bucks we can have our personal one: i tried different companies and got that the less you pay the less you have, right now i feel very good with Dreamhost though there are companies that offer cheaper hosting but their quality is not so good. If you don't want to pay then there are companies like Wix that offer a free version of their paid services and after you can upgrade. It's up to your choice but choose wisely, look at a company's reviews to make a wise decision. How do we choose our domain's name ? Businesses use their names ( example: mcdonalds.com ) but authors could use their respective names like namesurname.com...

Get Social !!! Apart the obvious Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest and Linkedin that are the biggest social networks but not mainly ebook oriented, we have the following ones in which we can promote our ebook for free and that allows social engagement too:

https://www.goodreads.com/ free to subscribe, offers a paid avertising option, in which we can upload our ebook and see how audience reacts.

https://issuu.com/ offer a free plan in which we can share for free our ebook, features social engagement and offer paid plans with interesting features that will boost your promotion...

https://www.wattpad.com/ reminds me of Squidoo, it allows to create stories and to intereact with the audience, what i complain is that you can't upload directly your ebook but you have to convert it in their format, namely a story...

https://www.booktalk.org/ is a forum in which books are discussed and in which you can promote your ebook, please read their rules before posting, they offer paid advertising too...

https://glose.com/ french platform ( don't worry, it's in english ) that allows to have followers. I think anyway that its membership is not so big since it appears quite static.

https://www.livemargin.com/ similar to the previous one, it should be moderated what people upload, i saw some users uploading book of twenty pages in which the same sentence is repeated in all pages.

It's essential to have a website dedicated to your ebook, which name should be made of keywords people are googling for, but you can even boost it with social bookmarking tools like addthis.com or sharethis.com. You make a very nice website, people interested in your ebook whill share it through the social bookmarking buttons and it will go viral. The key is exploiting at the maximum the traffic you are getting. See it as an essential feature to add to your site even before promoting it.

The first step is to have a website or a portion of your main site dedicated to your ebook. Some SEO is welcome and your ebook should be on your site and hyperlinked, in this way will be reached by some searches on Google. This is a passive way to get attention but it's essential at the same time. We want to switch on active ways to get it seen by others. Now let's submit our ebook to some free websites:

Welcome to "how to promote your free ebook", this page is a diary in which I'll list every step to promote the free ebook that I wrote. Why a free ebook ? Usually ebooks are sold, the top marketplace for them is Amazon, but sometimes an ebook is written to promote a business or as a tool for religious or politic propaganda. Its being free maximizes its diffusion. Amazon gives you the possibility to give your ebook for free but for limited periods. If you want to give it for free then you'll have to skip most of editors that righteously want to make money on it. I assume that you have written your ebook, checked it with a tool like grammarly and you have had it proofreaded ( there are various proofreading services you can find by Google or by Fiverr ).
