Pordenone Towards Italian Capital of Culture 2027

The theme of the urban exhibition is crossing boundaries: overcoming limits, with the border understood as a threshold, a passage, and a possibility. The works intertwine geographical, cultural, and social dimensions, as well as languages and practices, between image and word.

A widespread exhibition embedded in the flow of everyday life, creating a map of visual presences and a collective narrative shaped by different visions.

Our idea of crossing boundaries unfolds as an ongoing dialogue between sound, word, and image. Sound attempts to translate itself into language, while words try to convey its echo, generating an unstable exchange open to interpretation. Within this tension, a Dada-inspired narrative takes shape, one whose meaning escapes logic and where reality transforms into an experience suspended between perception and imagination.

With this project, we created an editorial device designed to constantly reactivate the reading experience, shaping a layered narrative that reveals unexpected details and perspectives.

Friends, references, memories, and projects intersect in a deliberately unordered — and unconventional — archive rooted in who and are.

Throughout the book, countless moments and details emerge: the surreal game of asking twenty friends what the acronym DWA means to them, alongside Alberto and Frederik’s own answers; projects presented through oversized fold-out pages that generate unexpected fragments; reference images and design sketches; sealed pages opened with a reinterpreted paper knife; iPhone photos from Alberto and Frederik; and an archive of 120 projects that have defined the studio.

The result is a reflection of DWA’s multifaceted vision, developed over more than twenty years across design and architecture.
