Johnny Marr returns with the announcement of The Age Of Everything,
the new studio album due for release on October 2nd via BMG

The Age Of Everything is Johnny Marr’s fifth full length studio record. 10 new songs that he
describes as the most cathartic songwriting of his career. Written in London, developed live
on the road across the East Coast of North America and recorded in Manchester, The Age
Of Everything captures the energy and tensions of the city. Sharp, fast and dynamic, filled
with ideas and possibilities.

Brand new single ‘Spin’ is The Age of Everything’s urgent opening statement. Released
today, the song is charged with emotion and sonic energy. Johnny Marr is soundtracking the
collective consciousness of 2026 as he sings,
“there’s too much coming into my mind”.

Introducing the album, Marr said: “This is the record that’s been the most
cathartic. The title came to me early in the process and became an inescapable idea. It
seemed to sum up the way I think a lot of people are feeling. It’s all encompassing, but
it’s not necessarily a negative statement. There’s a sense of overwhelm in the culture
brought about by technology, but looking at it with a different light, there could also
be a sense of possibility.”

release their new EP, O’JOY!, via today.

Comprised of vocalist Joe Hicklin and drummer Callum Moloney, BIG SPECIAL have spent the last few years building a reputation as one of the UK’s most vital new bands; channeling working-class frustration, dark humour, tenderness and fury into songs that feel both deeply personal and painfully communal. O’JOY! continues that trajectory while pushing further into the shadows, gathering together songs that didn’t previously fit within the emotional architecture of their albums but still demanded their own space.

Released alongside the EP is the animated video for “HOTEL”, a bruised and bleary-eyed closer that captures BIG SPECIAL at their most reflective and emotionally exposed. Equal parts resignation and release, the track drifts through exhaustion, isolation and the strange intimacy of temporary places, ending O’JOY! not with resolution, but with acceptance.

Speaking on the track, the band said:

““HOTEL” is an old song that was written a good few years back.
It was good to get it in the studio and bring it into our current time.
It seems like a song about us touring and how that can be a double edged sword. And it sounds like that’s the meaning to us now too, but the reality is that it was written way before we started touring.
It was written about changing states of mind and a hope for help through medication whilst still holding worry for the possible personal changes ahead.
It’s been interesting for us to see how songs we’ve written can even change meaning to us over time.
It makes us think more about the importance of being honest and open in our music. That’s the main way to relate, just don’t think about it relating to anyone at all, because it will always be about what it means to them.”

O’JOY! is out now digitally, on CD and vinyl via SO Recordings.

Today, announce the release of their eagerly anticipated new album “Soft Control” coming August 21, 2026, via Royal Cream / .
The band also releases a brand-new single “Jungle Roux” today on all streaming digital services; The Afghan Whigs are also announcing new tour dates today in Europe for this fall. Tickets for all shows will go on sale this Friday.

The Afghan Whigs new album, “Soft Control” is testament to the old David Bowie quote, where he describes aging as “an extraordinary process where you become the person you always should have been.” By now, the volatile years of band leader Greg Dulli’s youth have been substituted with a wry and self-aware satori. The edge and sensitive temperament remain but the unchecked infernos of ego and rage no longer threaten personal immolation. And Dulli’s vocals are simultaneously the strongest and most delicate that they’ve ever been.

“I’ve worked hard on my inner peace,” Dulli commented. “I was an angry young man, and it fueled my art, ambition and my drive. I wouldn’t change anything because I can’t. But as I got into photography and other art forms, I realized that I’m not in competition with anyone – including myself. Now, I know what I’m doing and there’s a quiet confidence that comes with being able to back it up.”

The album captures The Afghan Whigs’ unique ability to conflagrate stab-you-in-your-nose bone guitars and cubist refractions of soul and R&B. You expect bangers from The Afghan Whigs, and there are bangers. Yet there is a reconciliation of loud volume and somber reflections, living life with joy and purpose while keeping one eye on the clock and remaining aware of the absurdity. The Afghan Whigs’ tenth album is a sterling addition to a singular body of work –a double-sided invitation to embrace the light and welcome the darkness.
