The TAB 2026 Vision Competition β€œFrom Void to Value” invited proposals for reimagining Tallinn’s UNESCO-listed Old Town, with a focus on Harju Street. The competition addressed the reactivation of urban voids within a historic context, balancing heritage preservation with contemporary urban needs.

The first prize was awarded to A Place Reclaimed by Patrick Liik, Mikael Ristmets, Kaari Maria Tirmaste, Martin Sepp, and Valerii Krinberg, a team of young architects and urban designers based in Estonia and the Netherlands. Second prize was awarded to Reap What You Sow by Fred-Eric Pavel and Karmo Viherpuu. Third prize went to Urban Home by Michal Romaniuk.

The 31 proposed projects are currently exhibited at the TAB Vision Competition exhibition at Tammsaare park outdoor exposition area.

Launching in October 2026, Gllìa stems from an idea of timeless essentiality: a system that speaks the same language and forms the backbone of every project.

GllΓ¬a will present the Archive, a curated selection of archetypal products (handcrafted terracotta, parquet flooring, glazed ceramics, cement-based finishes and sanitaryware) defined by rigorous functionality and material quality, and built around the brand’s signature tone, GllΓ¬a White, alongside FΓ²lia, a collection of terracotta surfaces designed by NΓ¦ssi and the first of the Collaborations: individual releases, each developed through a designer–producer partnership.

In the heart of Rome’s San Giovanni district, SANTEDICOLA is a kiosk and pop-up exhibition space. Next Sunday, October 18, from 18:00, it will celebrate together a year of new faces, events and installations hosted in the newsstand.

The Agenzia del Demanio (Public Land Agency) commissioned architecture practice MC2AA, founded by Dario Costi and Simona Melli, to redesign the interiors and offices of its Emilia-Romagna Regional Directorate, a project involving the complete redesign of three office levels covering more than 1,000 square metres.

The ground floor accommodates large meetings, conferences, exhibitions and events, while creating opportunities for greater interaction and social exchange. At the centre of the open-plan space, a large architectural volume acts as a flexible element through a system of sliding panels that can be opened or closed according to the activities taking place.

The two upper floors are dedicated to everyday work. Partitions and fitted walls organise the space without compromising its visual continuity, balancing open areas and more enclosed settings. The uppermost level has a more intimate and luminous character, enhanced by natural light and the large skylight.

Colour distinguishes the three levels: the palette was developed by deconstructing the Public Land Agency’s logo, transforming it into an identifying matrix for the project. The project connects the history and character of the existing building with contemporary ways of working, through a stronger relationship with greenery and natural light and a more prominent role for art in the everyday working environment.

The Flanders Architecture Institute presents We The Bacteria, a group exhibition curated by Mark Wigley and Beatriz Colomina bringing together a range of designers who imagine a built environment that is grown rather than constructed. On view until 31 January 2027 at the De Singel art centre, the exhibition asks what architecture becomes when living organisms are treated not as a threat to our buildings but as their collaborators and, increasingly, their builders.

Among the works on view is DeepForestΒ³ by ecoLogicStudio, in collaboration with the Synthetic Lab of the University of Innsbruck. This installation reinterprets the concept of β€˜cosiness’ through microbial architecture. Various organisms form living walls and floors, capturing carbon dioxide from the exhibition space and converting it into nutritious biomass. Meanwhile, fungal networks take root in 3D-printed layers of bark made from algae-derived biopolymers. The result is a forest seemingly composed of recycled birch trunks.

On 15 October, as part of the 'We The Bacteria' exhibition, the VAi is bringing together ecoLogicStudio and Bento Architecture at De Singel in Antwerp for a discussion on the opportunities, challenges and contradictions of designing with living systems.

TAB 2026 opened on 9 September at Linnahall, followed by a week of conversations across the city. On Friday 11 September, the EKA auditorium hosted the "Sounds Expensive" Symposium, a practice-driven look at how architects navigate economies, constraints and systems of value, questioning assumptions around affordability and efficiency.

The day unfolded in three movements, each pairing a lecture with a panel led by the speaker. Claire Zimmerman (University of Toronto) opened with "The Costs of Architecture, in Formation", reading the politics of society through the cost of building and infrastructure, followed by TΓ΅nis Savi, Johannes Koch of Max von Werz Arquitectos and Avarrus arkkitehdit. Mathias-Vincent Palazzi and Thomas Flores presented "On Architecture and Expenditure", their research on frugal and austere paradigms developed at the Jan van Eyck Academie, with Secretary, Mantas Peteraitis and Salto. Phineas Harper closed with "Architecture After Growth", joined by asphalt, O–P and KAVAKAVA.

The symposium was preceded on 10 September by the EKA Architecture Department conference "To Be Continued…", on how architecture can move forward by building on existing knowledge and practices in the face of climate and resource challenges, and the week closed with the TAB Gala at the EKKM – Contemporary Art Museum of Estonia.
