May 30th at the Dear Black Woman in Italy "Learn and Slay" event at the Sunflower Hotel Milan can be described as LEGO pieces coming together. There is something incredible about LEGO blocks. As standalone pieces, they are just random and possibly unique shapes with their own colours. On their own, they are simply blocks. But when the pieces start to come together, a picture begins to form—something that the brain can recognise and understand.
"Learn and Slay" was quite like those pieces coming together. From the beautiful guests to the speakers, the DJ, the sponsors, the food, the banter, and the hugs, everything united to create the portraits you now see in full posts and videos across social media.
I feel so blessed and happy to be part of it, and I had an incredible time.
I can't even grasp how women I've never met in my life gave me what I perceive as genuine smiles, hugs that I felt came from the heart, and banter and chats as if we had been living in the same house for years. Thank you to every wonderful woman who worked tirelessly to ensure this was a success, and thank you to everyone who showed up for themselves and for others.
