I wanted to go back.
To when this was all I photographed.
To when I wasn’t rushing, wasn’t posting for likes, and searched for poetry as a way to express what I felt.

A friendly game.
A small arena that was far from perfect.
Difficult lighting.

None of these is a good reason to make less beautiful photographs.

The venue, the importance of the game and the scale of the event may change.
The way I choose to tell their story does not.

After the film, my daughter and I drove home at night with *Champagne Supernova* playing in the car.

She is twenty. I am fifty-six.

Neither of us is what you would call an Oasis superfan. And yet, during the film, we both sang. We both cried.

For a while, it felt as if we had been at the concert ourselves.

What reached us was not only the music, but the way it moved through thousands of people. Their voices, their bodies, their memories — all vibrating together. That energy crossed the screen and reached us in a cinema, years later.

For a moment, age, language, culture and time no longer mattered. Music had turned strangers, different countries and different generations into one living thing.

This is what music can do.

It communicates before words. One body receives the vibration, and another body answers.

I took these photographs because I don’t know how to simply watch something that moves me. I need to hold onto it.

And I’m sharing them for one reason only:

I felt this.
It was beautiful.
I hope you get to feel it too.

Maybe that is one of the ways we *live forever*.

And maybe one day I’ll photograph that feeling from the other side of the screen.

These photographs are from a game they lost.

On Thursday, August 27, Parma Baseball lost 5–3 to San Marino in Game 1 of the Italian Baseball Series.

Last night, five days and four wins later, they became Italian Champions.

But these photographs are not about the title.
They are about everything that came before.

Batting practice.
Portraits in the dugout.
Music always playing in the background.
The guys joking with each other in Spanish.
Someone eating pretty much all the time — which, coming from boxing, still feels wonderfully surreal to me.
And then, of course, the game.

Every year I photograph at least a couple of Parma Baseball games. And every year, when I come back, they welcome me as if I had been there just the week before.

Maybe that is one of the reasons I enjoy photographing them so much. For a few hours, I always have the feeling of being somewhere else.

Baseball could hardly be more different from the boxing world I usually photograph, and yet there is something about it that feels strangely familiar.

The competition is there, of course. But underneath it, there is something I find even more interesting.

A sense of belonging. What happens between people before, during and after the game. The things that will never appear in the final score.

That night, DtMF by Bad Bunny was playing in the dugout.
“Debí tirar más fotos.” Yeah. I should have taken more pictures.

Congratulations, Parma, Italian Champions.

I’m very happy to share that, for the 11th consecutive year, my work has been selected by the International Photography Awards.

This year, one of my photographs placed 3rd in the Sports / Competitive Events category, while two others received Honorable Mentions and one made it to the Official Selection.

Awards are given to photographs, but photographs are never created entirely alone.

So a sincere thank you to TADDE®️ + ON__SportsMag, Pamela Malvina Noutcho Sawa + Alessandro Dané + Bolognina Boxe, and + Rockin’1000 | The Biggest Rock Band on Earth for their trust and for allowing me to be there, close enough to tell these stories.

La prima partita della stagione, Reggiana-Ravenna.

Quest’anno ho deciso che fotograferò solo alcune partite.
Non perché abbia meno voglia di raccontare il calcio. Forse il contrario.

Dopo sei anni ho smesso di chiedermi se il mio modo di raccontare lo sport interessa oppure no. Ho una mia idea di fotografia sportiva, del tipo di immagini che cerco, dei momenti che considero importanti.

E quella idea voglio continuare a seguirla.

Qui, ogni tanto.
E soprattutto altrove.

Perché la voglia di raccontare è ancora fortissima.
È cambiata solo una cosa: oggi voglio scegliere meglio le storie a cui dedicare il mio tempo.

E di storie da raccontare, per fortuna, è pieno il mondo.

This year I’ve decided to photograph only a few matches.
Not because I feel less like telling football stories. Probably the opposite.

After six years, I’ve stopped asking myself whether my way of telling sport through photography is interesting to others or not. I have my own idea of sports photography, of the images I look for, of the moments I believe matter.

And I want to keep following that idea.

Here, from time to time.
And above all, elsewhere.

Because the desire to tell stories is still very strong.

Only one thing has changed: now I want to choose more carefully which stories deserve my time.

And fortunately, the world is full of stories worth telling.

My daughter took this photo of me. Because I asked her to.

It may sound strange, but I hate having my picture taken. Because when I see myself in photos, I often don’t recognize myself.

I think it’s something many women my age can relate to. And being told “You’re beautiful” doesn’t really help when what you truly want is to look at yourself in the mirror and be able to say, “Yes, that’s me.” And smile.

To recognize yourself in the wrinkles, the spots, the softness, the sagging. In a body that changes and that, sometimes, seems to change faster than the image of ourselves we still carry in our minds.

Loving your physical self at 56 can be complicated.

It’s a constant process of discovery. A kind of surrender without giving up. Slowly letting go of an old identity and learning how to inhabit a new one.

And perhaps taking pictures of yourself — or allowing someone else to photograph you — can help with that too.

Not to look for proof in a photograph that you’re still the person you used to be.

But to look at who you are today long enough to start recognizing her.

And maybe, one day, think:

“Yes. This is me.”

And smile.

Straight from another shoot.

Most people dream of being on stage.

Part of me keeps wondering what it would feel like to create the show instead. To be behind the decks. Or behind the lights.

Who knows... maybe one day I’ll swap my cameras for a DJ booth.
One thing will never change, though.

Music. That’s the only constant.

Thank you once again to Gio Zanni, Benny Benassi and Filippo Bedeschi for making Emilia feel just a little bit like Coachella.
