No potatoes and carrots? No problem! Used mushroom, orange snack peppers and aubergine in this japanese curry. Don’t hesitate to use any vegetable that you have on hand.

Beef Gyudon with stressed (not onsen lol maliiiii) egg

Beef rolls
Soysauce
Mirin
Sugar
Dashin Powder
Chicken Stock
White Onion
Garlic
Ginger

Easy, clear-out-your-pantry and tasty dish! I used a lot of white onion bcos that’s the only vegetable we have left at home. For the egg, I intentionally skipped the onsen egg bcos I dont eat raw looking yolk. The doneness of this one is perfect for me ☺️

We buy our beef rolls here in NL from Asian stores. In the PH, the most sulit yakiniku cut of beef can be found in Puregold’s frozen section!

Crispy baked kamote fries - Elio’s favorite

Dissolve flour and a bit of crispy fry in water to make the batter. Add a little oil. Mix the cut sweet potato. Bake. Enjoy your crispy kamote 😋

Chili con Carne

We recently visited Belgium and we were so happy to see Chili in the menu. Recreated it at home with Taco Seasoning we brought from the Philippines bcos I dont have all those spices the online recipes require 😆

I was not able to add in the video when I put the beans lol. The addition of dark chocolate made the taste deeper.

Ingredients:
Mix of ground pork and beef
Bell pepper (we only had the long sweet pepper)
Onion
Garlic
Taco Seasoning
Paprika
Canned tomato (I used 2 cans for 1lb meat)
Canned kidney beans (added in the end so it wont crush)
Dark Chocolate
A bit of sugar bcos it turned out too sour
Pepper (no salt anymore)
Topped with lots of cheese and greek yogurt instead of sour cream

Note that we use substitutions because those are what we already have in the pantry.

Laten we eten! 🤤🍽️

My new kind of liquid gold 💧

It was breastmilk in the past. Chicken broth na ngayon. We buy 1kg chicken feet (3€/kg) from our neighborhood’s weekend market and boil it to these containers of flavorbomb. I usually use it for Elio’s sopas but also to our everyday viand. The tender (leftover) chicken feet are then baked to crisp or turn into adobo.

Zeebaars / Seebass

One of our constant cravings at home - Cyma’s Grilled Seabass with lots of garlic and herb in olive oil! How I wish we can grill using charcoal here in our apartment. It would be sugoi!

1. Drizzle oil to the cleaned fish. Add salt, pepper and squeeze of lemon. Top it with lemon. Wrap the fish in baking paper and set to the oven. Wala akong setting and timing ng oven, tantya tantya lang 😆
2. Sautée lots of garlic, dill, parsley and thyme in oil. I mixed ev olive oil, neutral oil, and butter (just bcos we ran out of EVOO hehe). Season to taste.
3. Once fish is done, put the sautéed garlic and herbs on top. Serve and enjoy! 😊

Got this sea bass for less than 7 euros with 40% discount! 🥳

Dorade 🐟

We dearly miss our unli supply of tilapia, pla pla, bangus and gg! Ang mahal dito - nasa 6 euros pataas ang per piece! Bakit kasi naka alum tray pa? Char! One hack we do is to wait for it to have that beautiful orange korting sticker (meaning: it’s already on sale!) We fry it to a crisp and Elio will devour all the brown parts in no time. Amin ni Andrei and tirang laman 😂

Layered blue cheese and cream cheese. One of my favorites! The cream cheese balances out the sharpness of the blue cheese. Best paired with honey or lemon curd. 😋

Sinigang and Crispy Pata

Others recommended using spinach in lieu of kangkong for sinigang but i dont like the texture! It’s slimy when cooked in water.

Accidentally discovered that small red radish leaves is a good alternative. They usually just use the radish roots when cooking. I thought “What a waste! The roots are half of the package. What could I use it for?” Voila! Free greens for our sinigang! The red radish are sweet and tender when cooked and adds a bright orangey color to the soup. No space for homesickness here. 😆

Ube Champorado 🥣

A friend from PH recently visited here and surprised us with ube halaya! Used powdered gata, leftover rice, milk, and sugar to make this. All done in less than 10mins. Good thing we still have some crispy tuyo!

Lekker! 😋

(posting as if I was not in hiatus for months/years? lol)
