Hello everybody, I hope you are all doing well! I just wanted to let you know that the annual Sh*tsurai (“Offering”) Exhibition featuring several talented artist friends of mine is on now at !

There is also a linocut stamp carving and printing workshop happening on 5/9 (Sat) at 10:00-15:30, entry ¥4,000 in English and Japanese. You only need to bring something you don’t mind getting messy (an apron is best) and your creativity! Limited spots. You can register at [email protected]🖌️

The meeting room at the venerable (photo theirs) in is beautiful, I love the vaulted bamboo ceiling flourish, and the earthen walls have been built in the “Ki-Otsu” style, which used to be quite common, using a kind of yellow clay originally sourced from the Otsu area of Shiga (next to Kyoto), which is mixed with lime and h**p fibre. There’s also a technique called Otsu-migaki to give it a golden luminescent finish. You can also see some karakami (I think) handprinted paper in show at the back which is particular to Kyoto too.
Apparently Hiiragiya is accepting donations of books in English (possibly other languages too) on Japan for its library📚

Simply serene view over the mystical Lake Biwa from (photo theirs) which was also a hatago (inn) serving travellers during the Edo Period, when this area was part of a route linking the likes of Kyoto with the remote and snowy Hokuriku region of northwestern Honshu—much less known compared to the Gokaido, the five sanctioned highways that led to Edo (now Tokyo), passing by the eastern side of Biwa, but no less fascinating.
